What did I cook this weekend.....

Vegan Chili! Four kinds of peppers, 3 kinds of beans, zucchini, cilantro, parsley, stewed tomatoes.... and LOTS of spices. Oh! And besides the chili on the oven sits Liberty Cream Ale. I am a multi-tasker :)

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Just wrapped up Belgian Brew Day! Everything went nice and smoothly... Overshot my OG by 5 points, hit 1.070 with a target of 1.065. Not worried about that though! The only issue came up at pitching time, when I noticed that my Pure O2 hose had mold in it... I had to cut the hose off, sanitize a...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Though not technically the weekend, I have the day off and I'm brewing a small batch of a Belgian Dubbel. The kids helped mill the grain and I've just doughed in.

So the Belgian Dubbel recipe I am brewing today requires the addition of Candi Syrup and beet sugar... But the recipe does not specify when they are added to the boil. I have seen in other Belgian recipes to add with ten minutes remaining.. Does that sound correct?

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Did you buy one this size, or build it? I've seen one for sale at a nice price but the shipping is about the same cost so I'd rather just build one.. But I do not know what size hole to drill at the bottom.. And I would worry that because the circumference of a 2 gallon bucket is smaller and...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I am using White Labs WLP530.. The recipe is Jamil's Black Scapular Dubbel http://www.popularmechanics.com/home/how-to-plans/beer-recipes-how-to-home-brew-dubbel#slide-10 When converting the recipe into BeerSmith, it says I only need about a third of the yeast in the pack.. Is that with...

I'd recommend that you pick up a Brewing Software, such as BeerSmith or BrewTarget.. Both of these have a scaling feature which will allow you to take a 5, 6, or whatever size recipe you find and scale it down to a one gallon size. I use BeerSmith and scale recipes I like down to 1.5 gallons...

So, what's the one brewing practice "leap" that you haven't made yet?

Kegging. And that's a leap I doubt I'll ever make. the leap I do plan to make though, is fermentation temp control via chest freezer and STC 1000. I hope to get that done before the end of the year.

    1 gallon batch = 7 bottles

I get less than an inch of trub in the bottom of my fermenting bucket, and I usually make 1.5 or 3 gallon batches. The bag will most definitely cut down on the amount of trub. Another suggestion would be to cold crash the fermenter, if you are not already doing so.. More particles will fall out...

    1 gallon batch = 7 bottles

Try a paint strainer bag from your preferred home improvement store. A two-pack of one-gallon bags cost around $4 and are the perfect size for hopping the boil as well as dry-hopping. The bag imparts no flavor to your beer and can be easily washed and dried out. An ounce of hop pellets will...

That kinda attitude wears thin real quick. Hopefully you have another local brewshop? If not, Morebeer.com offers good prices and free shipping, helpful when you are buying ingredients in smaller increments.

    All Grain...I'm Afraid..

I brewed extract, then took a 15 year break, and once I came back I brewed nothing but all-grain, BIAB with a dunk sparge. During that fifteen year hiatus I picked up cooking, and many recipes I cook are pretty complicated... And I'd equate brewing to making dinner. Specific measurements, time...

    Hello. I'm from Norwich, England.

Impressive how quick you went from not drinking to buying your first kit! It took me about a year.. haha Is that kit all-grain? partial mash?
