    hopped cider experiences, advice needed

Didn't add pectic enzyme, thinking I wouldn't with juice. I do have some on hand, however. It's it too late to add it? Azacca, sounds nice. How'd that turn out? Did you use apple juice?

    hopped cider experiences, advice needed

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. It stopped short, only down to 1.010, which is similar to my last experience with cider with S-04 yeast. (That was good cider, though). This still hasn't dropped bright, refrigerated since March. (And I added gelatin, too). Another relevant detail I...

    hopped cider experiences, advice needed

Ok, a late update on this: I added 2 cans AJ concentrate at kegging, together with sorbate and k-meta. Sampling in March showed it hadn't dropped bright, but more surprising than that: the flavor was very orange-juice citrusy, with tartness to match. I tried another glass this week, still...

    hopped cider experiences, advice needed

Hey ya'll, I've got a cider fermenting currently, consisting of 4.5 gals Great Value apple juice, Safale S-04 dry ale yeast, and 1/2 tsp yeast nutrient. I'm fermenting in a keg this time around, so there will be less transferring, and if I do need to transfer, I'll just push with CO2. It's a...

    IPA keg, can't dispense....

So I settled on siphoning to a new keg, said keg being pre purged with CO2. I put the cap on my racking cane, and carefully lowered the cane into the keg, avoiding the bottom... Hadn't used that cap on the racking cane in years! It worked great, clear IPA. Next time, I'm using a floating dip...

    IPA keg, can't dispense....

Thanks guys. I think I've got a few options to work with.

    IPA keg, can't dispense....

Hey y'all, I foolishly dry hopped a keg with maybe 5 oz. pellets in a muslin bag.... And can't dispense anything. The keg has sat in my fridge for three weeks after I tried to dispense it. I'd like to transfer to another keg somehow, and bottle from the keg. I have no floating dip tube or...

    Busch light Apple

Ok, looking for input about brewing something similar to Busch light Apple for a wedding. Beer will be kegged. I'm familiar with lager brewing, light lager, adjunct lager brewing, etc, so I'm not concerned about that. My thought is, start with a basic light American lager recipe, ferment...

New SS shanks: cleaning before use

Hey thanks. Now all I need is to redo my portable tap wall

New SS shanks: cleaning before use

Hey, I just bought some SS perlick faucets and krome dispense SS shanks. I'm wondering about cleaning before use. What do you think: a good hot oxyclean soak, followed by Star San?

    Force Carbonating Hard Cider

I'd be curious to find out the results of your pH testing.

    Force Carbonating Hard Cider

I'd expect carbonation of cider results in carbonic acid, which lowers pH. This would add a bit more tang, or sharpness, or "sweetness" to some tongues. In similar fashion, pH of carbonated water (5.5) is much more acidic than pH of typical tap water (8.0). As far as whether gas is left on or...

    hopped cider brewing

Split batch is a good idea. Might have to keg in two kegs and split dry hops that way. I'm thinking "fruity" like citra/el dorado would complement, especially with a yeast that throws some esters. However, I think you're right about using a smaller dose in any case.

    hopped cider brewing

RPh, Thanks for the thoughts. Have you made hopped cider with Saaz? Just curious, as I'm having difficulty imagining how it would taste. I've mostly seen hopped ciders made with IPA type hops (galaxy, citra, mosaic, etc), which I why I was headed in that direction. I'm well acquainted...

    hopped cider brewing

Hello. My brother in law has gluten issues, and so avoids beer these days. He does drink a fair amount of Angry Orchard (AO) cider. I recently brewed a 1 gallon trial batch with Mott's apple juice and S-04 yeast, stabilized, and backsweetened to about 1.020 with apple juice. He liked it as...

damaged "quad ring" seal on Taprite regulator....

Thanks Garry. I removed the original and installed a keg post oring, and then reinstalled the keeper with an Allen wrench. It sounded good: no leak that I could hear. I'll probably order a bunch of replacements to have on hand.

damaged "quad ring" seal on Taprite regulator....

That is helpful. I've seen the part in question for sale per each, from AIH and other sites. The 111 dash size is the same as the keg post orings, per my notes. I don't have any square profile on hand, however. Maybe the round profile can work in a pinch. I'm still curious if anyone has...

damaged "quad ring" seal on Taprite regulator....

Hello. A month ago, I had about 5# CO2 in my 10# tank. Yesterday, I arrived home from a trip, and found my gauge at zero. Bummer. Anyway, when I removed the regulator, I saw the oring had been damaged. This is a square cut oring that sits in a groove on the face of the Taprite regulator...

Bottling backsweetened cider after keg carbonation?

Hello. I just brewed a one gallon batch of my first cider, using motts Apple juice and safale s04 yeast. I backsweetened with frozen Apple concentrate, after adding sorbate and metabisulfite. I then kegged and force carbed. The batch tasted good! I'm planning to make a 5 gallon batch in the...
