Hey Ray, This is Derrick. Let me know if you need any Cascade, Columbus or Nugget. We have extra. Also have some Magnum and Galena. Thanks

How much bine to leave/ when to cut back?

You shouldn't cut anything off first year plants, and sometimes even second year plants, until all the leaves have fallen off. For our 3rd year and older plants I leave as much as possible. By that I mean if there are no cones on the bine for the first 6 feet, I leave 6 feet. If the cones...

    Central Penn Hopyard

Hey HoffAppFarm, welcome to the forum. This is my thread but I had to switch user names. We actually only did the A trellis for our first install. It's what we had available and works quite well, besides getting to the weeds inside of the A section. Everything else we've put in is like...

    GVH Drying Method

Hey Dan, I know how it is when you're harvesting all day. Might make you miscalculate something at the end of the day due to being tired, and probably a little buzzed from the after work beers. :cross: The below calculation would yield about 7 pints from 10 pounds. 100 pounds would yield...

    Are these ready?

A few things could help a little. What variety, location, spray program? Just from looks, you could harvest now but how long until you'll be around to do it? You wrote a few weeks. I wouldn't wait more than two weeks. If you have the option to get her to send a picture every week...

New 1/4ac Hop Farm in South Central PA

Hey, this is Derrick from Central Penn Hops. Looking good! We (Halifax, you and me) should look into making our own chapter for NEHA. I really don't feel they do much currently for hop growers, and maybe we could provide better information to others in the area that are looking at getting...

    1 Acre Hop Farm Requirements?

Oh yeah, and the biggest problem is weeding, unless you are a freak and like that sort of thing. We are trying out a clover cover crop that seemed to take very well last year and smothered out some of the more annoying weeds. Clover is the hardest thing to hand weed though, if you need to pull...

    1 Acre Hop Farm Requirements?

Dan is always a great source of knowledge on these forums. His prices are pretty spot on, depending on where you cut corners to save some cash. We aren't that close to long island, but if you wanted to get some hands on experience we are putting in about 3/4 of an acre this spring. We're in...

Beer Road Trip - San Francisco to San Diego, where should we stop?

When we did a day brew tour in Southern California we hit: Stone Lost Abbey/Port Brewing Ale Smith Ballast Point Mission Coronado In that order. It was a great trip.

    Growing HOPs in Pennsylvania

The kind we grow in Central PA, that grow well, are Nugget, Cascade, Magnum, and Columbus. Galena seems to do well too, but I'll have to wait till next year to be sure.

    Bine 3060 Hop Harvester

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who as attempted to build their own harvester. This winter we'll be doing just that using specs from the UV harvester and some other ideas that are floating around. I'd love to buy a 3060, just can't afford it with how small we are (1/2 acre).

    Question about Using a Dehumidifier

Dehumidifing the hops is the goal of drying them. If you do it without heat you'll keep oils that usually are lost. The oast I am working on has no heat source and only uses a dehumidifier to bring the hops to the right moisture content.
