    Extract or grain?

gotta disagree the majority of extract brew taste canned. Comes across all styles. PM's or extract & grains are a vast improvement if properly done and often indistinguishable from an AG brew

    Best use of Vanilla beans

I use an easier method. I add a tablespoon of vanilla bean paste thinned with a bit of bourbon :ban::ban::ban::ban:

    Upgrading

15 or 20 gallon kettle a 10 or 15 gallon batch doesn't take any longer to brew than a 5

What's the next step in improving my brewing?

+1000 on getting a bigger kettle that will give you the room you need. I use 15 gallon in a HERMS a stir plate if you do not have one, a grain mill 10 gallon cooler for AG. AHH....... my friend the list never ends. Always some new to try build brew etc it is one of the things you have to...

    Candi syrup vs honey?

I brew a lot of Belgiums. Personally I have found using honey to be a waste. The subtle flavor & aromas go up with the CO2. For boosting ABV plain ole sugar is fine. If you are adventurous you can make your own candi sugar. I often do. It is simply a simple syrup that you allow to...

    Herms & rims

I do the crushing myself. I use a barley crusher and an electric drill at just enough speed to keep it moving. If I go faster I had stuck sparges but that was when I was doing my mashing in a cooler. Does the rate at which the wort flows thr the grain bed effect the efficiency?

    Hot side oxidation and HERMS

I always have at least a 1/2 inch of wort on top of the grain bed drop tube is submerged I do not see where O2 is being picked up:rockin:

    Mash pH question

I use it and get great results with a PH of 5 it may not be worth it. Remember the ole time brewers did not have any of this stuff. Yet we try and clone those old timey beers!!!:rockin:

    Low gravity after primary

Sounds like it is done. The only reason I do a secondary is because I keg. Allowing the beer to fall clear keeps trub out of the pick-up tube

    How did you find us?

After getting kick off of MR Beer for not using their products and complaining that they would not replace the defective spigots and keg that I gave my nephews for Christmas. Rember a lot of people from there are here

Your experience with honey in secondary.

something I did not see mentioned. Honey malt. I never had much luck with getting honey flavor in a beer otherwise.

    Herms & rims

Hi anyone have advice for someone just starting out with a HREMS rig? I have brew 6 batches so far. Like it. I am still having a problem getting my efficiency to be the same between batches. How big of an effect does your crush have to do with it? I am batch sparging because I only have...

Recirculated mash - no added heat

the only time I do this is with a batch sparge. Otherwise ithe wort is running thr the heat excahngering
