    Brew Log

Ooh, just got this in the mail this past weekend. I like it so far. Easier to write in than the Basic Brewing logbook, although it's not as detailed.

    Surprise birthday present

This was amazing. Came home yesterday to find that my super thoughtful wife had done this to my kegerator:

What have you quit doing ------ because it doesn't seem to be adding anything

For about 15 brews, I put in an 1/8 of a teaspoon of cinnamon with the mash because I read that Charlie Parpazian does that for every brew in order to prevent oxidation. I stopped because I felt like I could taste it in my lighter bodied beers, although that could have been my imagination.

How many gallons of homebrew in 2014?

I still maintain that there was a six thousand gallon jump a few weeks ago that nobody else seems to have caught.

Strange place for beer kits....or not!

I love how they make the krausen look like the refreshing head on a finished beer. Riiiight. I guess they wouldn't sell much if they showed the crusty nastiness that actually occurs.

Strange place for beer kits....or not!

And in Macy's...! This wasn't even Christmas time, it was the week before Thanksgiving.

    Trying two new things today

Brewing my first lager - an Oktoberfest, the recipe from Brewing Classic styles. Brewing while my two year old is up and about and SWMBO is out all day. Um, wish me luck everyone?

    Kegco Help/Feedback

Googling reviews of the 309 turned up multiple people having the issue with loud popping. I don't think it was quite gunshot loud, but startling all the same. Mine just makes the run of the mill fridge sounds. It sits on our porch anyway so I don't hear it most of the time.

    Kegco Help/Feedback

I've had the 309 since August and love it. Absolutely no issues with popping sounds, which I was a little nervous about. I will say that they ****ed up the shipping. They sent me the completely wrong kegerator - it belonged to some guy in the next state over. Meanwhile, mine had never left...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2014?

Pages 387 and 389 of this thread contain major mistakes. Basically, the count is 6,000 too high right now.

How many gallons of homebrew in 2014?

Uh. I think someone skipped like 3,000 gallons a couple of pages back.

Saison How Rye I Am (Rye Saison) - 2011 - 1st Place Best of Show - HBT Comp

Doh!! I just brewed this last night! Couldn't find 275 Lovibond, so I used enough 180 Lovibond to get me to 18 srm. Lol oh well. It's a pretty color.

Saison How Rye I Am (Rye Saison) - 2011 - 1st Place Best of Show - HBT Comp

Very interesting! Anyone else in this thread feel like posting a picture of their brew?

Saison How Rye I Am (Rye Saison) - 2011 - 1st Place Best of Show - HBT Comp

Just tried that one. It predicts 18.3 SRM. So what's the story here? Is this an almost brown Saison? Why the 275 Lovibond candi sugar?

Mash pH of today's Hefeweizen need input

I've found that of the three hefes that I've brewed and measured the pH, the two that were closer to 5.2-5.3 were brighter and more well liked than the one that was 5.4. The lower pH adds a nice tartness that goes well with the Hefe profile.

Saison How Rye I Am (Rye Saison) - 2011 - 1st Place Best of Show - HBT Comp

Nah, I haven't brewed it, I'm just talking about entering the recipe into my brewing software. It predicts 19 srm.

Saison How Rye I Am (Rye Saison) - 2011 - 1st Place Best of Show - HBT Comp

That's also what I thought. However, this recipe calls for 152. I guess my more pressing question is actually what srm are people getting? 5-7 srm doesn't seem possible with the amount of dark candi sugar added.

Saison How Rye I Am (Rye Saison) - 2011 - 1st Place Best of Show - HBT Comp

I've skimmed through this thread, so apologies if this has been answered already, but what is the SRM that people are getting out of this recipe? iBrewmaster is telling me it's going to be about 19, which almost seems like brown ale territory!
