Duotight fittings and solenoid valve for kid control

I'm sure there will be a lot of opinions here. Hopefully some of you will find the topic interesting. Am trying to get ahead of kid problems around my keezer. I'm toying with the idea of installing a solenoid valve on my beer lines and using some kind of authentication to open up the valve...

Ball lock post on bulkhead - RO water output

I'm adding a RO filter to my brewery. Instead of the normal cheap faucet that are usually associated with RO systems (that I don't want to drill into my nice staineless sink)...I am thinking about putting a bulkhead thru the wall above my sink. The bulkhead would ideally present a liquid ball...

    CIP conical process question

This is probably a stupid question...but I'm going to ask it just in case. I have a conical that I CIP. Do I need to remove all the TC fittings and check them....resantize each time? I took one off and it was clean on the conical side. I assume that as long as I drain things after CIP that...

    Force carb in conical procedure

I’m doing my first batch in my new Spike conical and want to include force carbing in the conical to minimize steps after I get the beer in the keg. Spike hasn’t yet released their card stone solution but they do show a picture. I came up with something similar, at least it should accomplish...

Submersible pump in glycol - stuck impeller?

I have this pump in my glycol reservoir https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JPIQ1Y/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 It’s been working great. Last night before bed I started a cold crash from 70 and took it down to 35. This morning I woke up and saw it had gotten to 35 and was working its way...

    Spike conical cold crash

I got a new 14g Spike conical with their coil. I built a glycol chiller out of a 5000 BTU AC and have about 6 gallons of ~33% glycol mix in a cooler reservoir that I keep at 25F. I ran 3/8" ID silicone tubing between my cooler/coil and back. I insulated my cooling lines with pipe insulation...

    Unitank (Spike) setup scenarios

This probably applies to S.S. Brewtech too, but I'm focussing my discussion on Spike. I'm in the final stages of my purchasing decision on a Spike Unitank/conical. I want to make sure I'm getting the right fittings for a few setup scenarios, so I'm going to list my scenarios and ideas, each in...

    FTSS coil cleaning

I'm kind of interested in a FTSS to control my ferm temps. I currently roll my conical into a ferm chamber I built and cool with a window unit. I'm at the point where I need to built it better (and make it look nicer) or do something different. One thing that's always bothered me about the...

    Chugger pumps losing prime

I've been using my chugger pumps for a few years on my 3 vessel eHerms and very happy with them. I always ran them wide open during brew day. In my HLT, I'd recirc. And from the MLT I'd pump thru a 50 foot 1/2 stainless coil. I took a few months off from brewing (busy with work) and built...

Keg outside for a party, how to control temp

I'm hosting a movie night and planned to move a keg from my keezer to the back yard. I planned to put the keg in a 5g bucket with some ice and use a picnic tap and a small co2 tank How do I make sure I don't over cool it? Weather is scheduled to be in the 60s

    Co2 leaking from tank PRV?

I have a new to me co2 tank (exchange). I've had a keg carbonating in the corner for at least a week. Tonight I walk by it and I hear hissing. I get out the starsan and start spraying. It seems like it's coming from the tank's PRV...like the side that would come into play even if the valve...

650ss and short lines. Burp at first pour then fine

I have 650ss taps and have my lines shortened down to 3 or 4 feet. My first pour is foamy. I can put that aside and then get a great pour. I wonder if this is due to temperature differences. Since I get subsequent pours with no issue, I don't think longer lines will help. I almost...

    Control window unit with SSR

I've bypassed my window unit's internal thermostat and want to mimic the thermostat function (which feeds the compressor) with a SSR, so I can control it thru my BCS. My previous solution was to kill power to the AC unit when the fins iced up. This took forever unless I ran a bunch of...

    Water approach

I'm just getting into the water aspect of brewing and am trying to understand the best approach. My water company's water report is lacking in some of the key data fields. I know I have the option of buying my own test kit, or sending it off, but that doesn't take into account seasonal...

Delaware Stainless quick disconnects from Bargain fittings

I switched to camlocks and want to get rid of these. Selling for about 30% off of new. They had a hot soak in oxyclean then a nice rinse. I think a few mins with a toothbrush can get the rest of the teflon tape off. Will ship in a USPS flat rate box at actual cost to me from 19713. Prices...

Window unit for ferm chamber freezing up

I have a BCS controlling my window unit that cools my fermentation chamber. I'm trying to cold crash for the first time, but my coil keeps freezing up. I've gone as far as putting a large box fan flowing air onto it....but it still freezes. I was looking at the coolbot website and saw that...

    Over carbed in keg

I have a keg of over carbed beer in ball lock kegs with the pressure release valves. I know I can pull they release over and over for a few days. Can I pull the release and twist to keep it open? Or am I opening myself up to nasties getting in?

HERMS - mashed too low. Can I make it up?

I'm still dialing in my HERMS temperature...the delta between the HLT and the mash. I undershot 148, shooting for 150. The mash temp affects fermentability, dryness, etc....but mashing isn't a snapshot...it's an hour long event. I'm assuming it all averages out? I know...relax, don't...

    Wheels of 14g ssbrewtech conical

I'm waiting for the above mentioned fermenter to arrive. I plan on adding wheels so I can wheel it in and out of my fermentation chamber Anyone added wheels yet? Which ones did you get?
