    Harvesting from Duvel

Right, read to fast.... so it's definitely the same yeast in the bottle then. That is pretty weird about the "different circumstances". Please post recipe and how it works out for your clone.

    Harvesting from Duvel

I'm posting this here because this is the first thread that comes up when you google harvesting Duvel yeast. I've been unable to confirm that Duvel uses the same yeast to bottle condition than in the primary, there seems to be alot of conflicting reports floating around. However, in Brew Like...

Chocolate Malts of Rum and Campfire

So I did and experiment where I steeped some grains in 65 C water for a half hour. The idea was to get sense of the flavour...blah blah blah.. you get the idea. The reason I'm posting is the results I got from the chocolate malt. The extracted liquid was nothing special; dark, roasty but a...

Has any body seen a sour starter do this? (Guess the microbes...)

I think the stuff underneath the top thick layer might be "lacto krausen" it looks very light and bubbly. But that top stuff looks really yeasty.... From this thread:

Has any body seen a sour starter do this? (Guess the microbes...)

So a couple weeks ago I pitched the dregs of a 3 Fonteinen Golden Blend into a starter and a couple days later this is what I got. Note that the pictures were taken after about a week, but aside from the krausen/pellicle (???) having gown then shrunk a bit, it hasn't changed much at all. The...

Will this cheap 3500 watt induction burner work?

Are all Bayou Classic pots induction compatible? Looking around on the web I find that the pots are reported as about 100 different grades of stainless, most of which are non magnetic. Common sense tells me that all the pots of the same name are probably the same steel, though. Anybody had a...

First Lambic - Orval and Lindeman's cultures

I checked another bottle of Cuvee Rene that I have squirreled away and it says that it is refermented in the bottle, so there should be bugs in there - if it's the same as their primary culture i'm not sure. Plus the starter I made of it seemed quite alive indeed. As for the not sampling...

First Lambic - Orval and Lindeman's cultures

So I finally took my first dive into lambics. I followed an average/beginner grain bill and mash schedule for a sour. Primary fermentation was done with a culture of Orval yeast that I have kept going for a while now. After racking off the yeast cake (to keep my orval culture pure-ish) I...

First Brett Beer - Orval Dregs

Just thought I would post an update for any future google searches that stumble across this thread... Just racked the beer to secondary today after a week in primary. The fermentation was insane! I only had a 3 gallon batch in a 5 gallon carboy and the foam still overflowed. The Gravity came...

First Brett Beer - Orval Dregs

Yeah. I read in Brew like a monk that they used both the primary strain and "local yeast" which includes brett. In the starter the fermentation very much looked like sacch fermentation. But there is definitely the brett funk present.

First Brett Beer - Orval Dregs

Very cool. Thanks for the info. Let me know how the ris turns out. I think I might try this any way just for the experiment. I'll try and post results.

First Brett Beer - Orval Dregs

Hello HBT. I've been benefiting from the wealth of knowledge that can be found on this forum for quite some time now and I have finally decided to join the fun. Any way, down to business; I have a starter of cultured Orval dregs sitting on my counter and I just cannot wait to use it. Note...
