How does one start brewing Quality Beer

Oh the memories. I got into brewing because I liked to cook and figured making beer had to be great. I sold myself on it with the justification that I could drink quality beer for the price of Busch Light sold out of hot trunk of someone's car. Fast forward 2 years and I now have built a keezer...

Haha, HTH is Hope This Helps, and YMMV is Your Milage May Vary (basically, your results will likely differ from mine) I'm actually happy you're gonna try it. I'm intrigued to see how it works our for you. As far as waiting to enjoy, delayed gratification is a wonderful thing for those strong...

:ban:CONGRATS!:ban: Welcome to the big 21! If you find the time/funding, take a trip to Wisconsin or Michigan and tour some breweries! We have LOADS here in Michigan and New Glaurus in Wisconsin is amazing. Some say Ohio has some wonderful spots, but, being an MSU student, I just can't bring...

    JC Controller Issues :(

I searched and didn't really find a post on this yet.... I just got my JC controller today (A19AAT-2) and it's manual says the deadband should be 3.5F (non-adjustable). Sadly, my digital thermo says (at the bottom of the freezer) it's more like 8F. I'm not sure if my thermo is off (which will...

Guide to set internal chest freezer thermostat to >32F; Eliminate external control

Not a problem jcorn, I understand the love and care that goes into raising childrehhhhh-IIII mean building a keezer. Sorry, got my priorities out of wack. Anywho. Today has been a wonderful day. My Johnson Controls arrived earlier and I'm fiddling with it now. The posted deadband was 3.5F on...

Guide to set internal chest freezer thermostat to >32F; Eliminate external control

Jcorn, I'm sure it's the same control on the front. Little green light above the 7 digit dial with the three dots between 1 and the off setting. When you remove it, it's easier to twist the unit clockwise whilst facing the freezer, you'll notice the sticker on the side wraps around the metal...

    Custom Danby DAR440BL Conversion

That set up is sick! I love the look of the glass with the grey grout contrasted with the chestnut red. Very classy. It seems like it would be a tight fit for 5 gal cornies with the hoses on top. How much room is there for loading the thing? (I guess the intelligent way to ask this question is...

free foil insulated bubble wrap for Michigan tri county brewers.

What, if I may ask, do you/could you specifically do with this insulation? I just started dinking with my keezer's thermister to get it runnin by this weekend and stumbled upon this. The insulation I used around the wooden collar is reflective foam board but its rather cumbersome and not ideal...

Guide to set internal chest freezer thermostat to >32F; Eliminate external control

You just saved me SO much trouble by telling me it would be under that sticker... I have a Holiday 7.0cf freezer and was about to turn the screw on the top lol. You saved me from potentially killing this project and I appreciate that. I'm guessing that Holiday uses the same gadget in all...

    Stout Issues

Would you like a Guiness recipe for a partial mash I use? I can give you my best interpretation of the all grain version if you'd like. That way, you can brew it and compare it to a regular Guiness and see how they're different (though I'm not claiming the recipe I use is a perfect match).

Do D-rest or not to D-rest (or will I have a good lager by Superbowl

Ask Revvy about that one osagedr, he had a few judges complimenting the clarity of his work when he didn't even secondary:o In the end, if you're careful in racking or just plain patient, you can get really clear beers. Though, if I were brewing for a comp, I'd probably use any advantage...

    Wort vs. SS hose clamps

Solid idea stikks, I hadn't even considered that option. I'll see what I can find as far as scrap goes that's lying around. And I haven't the slightest clue about if the whole thing is SS or not. I didn't think they could display it as that if the whole thing wasn't stainless. But then...
