2013 NHC in Philly! Who's going?

Adam, it was great getting to meet other Jersey clubs as well. I really enjoyed the Mosiac Marris Otter SMASH from your booth. I'm pretty sure that one was yours. I didn't get a chance to try too many booths, because I was having a lot of fun pouring at ours (WHALES) I agree that it would...

2013 NHC in Philly! Who's going?

Yes, that was us! We had a ton of great comments about the RIS. We were getting stopped in the hallways and elevators about it. Damn, I didn't get a chance to say hello to you. I only met Soper and Sach this weekend... I think Soper was stalking me because everywhere I went he was there.

10 psi vs 15 psi LP Regulator

I know it will work. I just want it to work well. I don't want to wait an hour for 8-10 gallons of strike water to heat up or a 14 gallon preboil. After talking in the chat room it was suggested that 10 or 15 psi will work, but will suck for full keggle boils. Like I said above, I'm not...

10 psi vs 15 psi LP Regulator

I ordered a pair of BG-14's from Agrisupply and ordered 2 regulator and hose setups. The website says the regulators are 0-15 PSI, but when I got them, there was a sticker on the red knobs that said "1-10PSI". I called Agrisupply and they were going to have someone call me back. I tried one...

    NHC 2012 First Round Scoresheets

Yes, I understand that the scores from the initial judging are not used in the mini BOS. (Edit)Based on that PDF, my table must have had enough entries that scored higher than me for me to not make it to the mini BOS. Thanks for the link.(/edit)

    NHC 2012 First Round Scoresheets

That's the thing. I don't think there are set rules. Maybe there are, but it isn't made clear if it is set at the AHA level or the host decides how it goes down. (EDIT)The PDF says the judges may send around 3 entries they thought were the best. Doesn't say scored the highest. In theory, in...

    NHC 2012 First Round Scoresheets

Did anyone other than Bobby's Club Framboise (Go WHALES!) have a place written on their front page? We don't know exactly how many entries per category were entered. What rules were used to decide how many entries per judging table? I can't see judging more than a dozen at a clip as...

    NHC 2012 First Round Scoresheets

My IIPA scored a 42 at NHC-Philly and it doesn't have anything filled in the Mini BOS check box, nor does it say that it placed.

Blichmann HopRocket First Use (with photos)

I would sanitize the hop rocket itself, after cleaning it, but there is no need to sanitize hops.

    IPA tastes sweet

21 seems a bit high. If it were me and it was 2 weeks from pitching yeast, I'd probably throw in a pack of US05 or something and see if it cuts it down. But, to me that recipe is too sweet anyway. That's 76% 2 row. Personally, I think your base grains need to be way closer to 90% I would...

Just got my hops starters yesterday!

Yeah, I'd like to know too. I thought sales were done until the spring. I bought 10 rhizomes and only 4 actually grew (Of the 6 duds, 2 sprouted and 4 never did at all). I'd love to get something in the ground now just to try and get some roots established before the 2012 season.

Number of taps for 19.5" drip tray

At 4 inches apart, 4 of my 8 taps would be 12 inches from dead center of the 1st, to dead center of the last. That leaves 7 inches, divided by 2, would give 3.5" the outside of the 1st and last tap. At 3 inches apart, 5 taps would fit in the same first to last span of 12 inches. At 3.5...

Number of taps for 19.5" drip tray

Those are the 19 inch trays from BarProducts.com. I have the 2 trays velcroed to a piece of wood that is resting on 2 shelf brackets from Lowes, that have 3 or 4 hard drive magnets on each bracket. As you can see, it's not centered in that picture and it looks like you can squeeze 5 taps...

Filling your CO2 in Central NJ

Thanks for another place to check out. I go to Reliable Carbonic in New Brunswick. I have a 15# tank and it's usually $15 or $20 (depending on who fills it up).

    Show us your Kegerator

Thanks. The weather seal is the one glaring thing that annoys me. I was afraid to paint it black because I wasn't sure if it was going to stiffen the rubber up. I originally tried to find some black weather stripping at Lowes/Home Depot, but never found anything that I thought was strong...

    Show us your Kegerator

Here's mine. The drip trays attach to the wood with velcro. The wood sits on 2 cheap shelf brackets from Lowes. They attach to the keezer with hard drive magnets.

Any drawbacks to mashing with total pre-boil volume using MLT??

Have you found that going to one batch sparge (instead of splitting the volume in half for two) works out just fine (Of course it will be just fine!. duh). What I mean is, do you see no added benefit of splitting it in half? As is right now, if my sparge volume is anything around 3 gallons...

    Recent issue with girlfriend

My wife wants to see Black Swan. A movie about ballerinas. Then I realized there's a sub plot of Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman having a lesbian love affair, with Mila going down on Natalie's character, then after she wipes Natalie off of her mouth, Mila tries to suffocate Natalie with a...
