    Running lines to outside bar

After Furious negotiation where he conceded far too much, my mate got his wife to agree to let him set up a Kegerator in the garage and run lines up to their deck above, where we can build a little box with a tower. We have an extremely limited budget for this. We're going to make a Kegerator...

Coat a clear bottle with paint to protect beer?

For what it's worth, some of the bottles I use are screw-cap. I've never had any problems.

    Yeast raft?

Haha, thanks. I mean, it IS just beer :D Thanks also for the tips. I'll do some reading on how to sanitize the stuff that's touched it. I wonder if it makes sense to get it out of there sooner rather than later? If it's going to take a really long time to be able to do anything with...

    Yeast raft?

    That's what I figured. Thanks!

    Yeast raft?

Sorry, it's definitely a flat sheet.

    Yeast raft?

No, not yet. I figured I'd just wait a little bit and see if it broke up.

    Yeast raft?

Hey folks, So I'm used to seeing yeast rafts floating on my beer, but they are usually the size of a grain of rice or maybe a dime. This batch, though, apparently has the Titanic of yeast rafts. It measures about 2 inches across and has a slightly oily sheen to it. I'm starting to wonder...

    When to transfer to secondary?

I've made that kit. I left it in the primary for about 3 weeks. Came out very nice. I wouldn't both transferring it.

    saving money with brewing

"I'll save money" is a great argument to use with SWMBO. She might even buy it.

What to Do with 5g Carboys

Haha, well, he makes a lot of fruit wine. Aside from Apfelwein, that's not really my thing -- and as much as I love the stuff, having 5g always cooking suits my needs just fine. My buyer was very, very excited though. Apparently the 5g carboys are hard to get here for some reason.

What to Do with 5g Carboys

Thank you, everyone. I think this is about to become a moot issue as I just got contacted about selling them. Murphy's Law. Still, I'll raise a glass to you this evening in appreciation for your help.

    Thanks, Sweetcell, also good ideas.

What to Do with 5g Carboys

I am sure you are right. I like the idea of doing split batches and trying different things in each. That sounds like a perfect use.

What to Do with 5g Carboys

Good afternoon, everyone -- So SWMBO surprised me with two nice, shiny new carboys -- only problem is they are 5g, not 6.5g. Since she bought them online, I don't want to go through the hassle of returning them if I don't have to. (I'm trying to sell them on Craigslist, but I live in a...

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

My first batch is bubbling as we speak. Total thread count=25,635!

    Newb question about Hard Cider

Thanks very much, my friend -- that's exactly what I needed to know. Happy brewing...and happier drinking!

    Newb question about Hard Cider

Hi folks, I have what is probably a very stupid question, so please forgive me. During the fall, SWMBO and I had an apple cider that wasn't malted -- in other words, it was more like a thick wine (kind of like mead), not very much carbonation, and came in basically a wine bottle. We loved...

    Uses For Spent Grains

I don't know if you care or not, but keep in mind that spent grains have almost no nutritional value for humans. (Livestock is another story, as they are able to digest different proteins.)

    Secondary time?

The general consensus seems to be that secondary fermentation is not necessary. It's an old-school method from when home brewing first got going -- now the equipment, ingredients, knowledge, etc. is so much better that it's kind of a useless step. As others said, leave it in the primary for...

To dump or not to dump

That's what I was thinking. I can see this beer being absolutely fantastic for breads and batters.
