    rehydrate dry yeast?

I take 1.5 cups of water, throw it in the microwave for 2 minutes to boil, then cool it in the freezer to around 75 to 8- degrees. I sprinkler the yeast on the water, cover and let it sit for 15 minutes. I know the directions say not to stir but I usually gently stir it so all the yeast is...

    Hops Drying Concerns

GVH_Dan, Thanks for the information. My dehydrator only goes down to about 90F so I'm keeping it there. Last year I set the heat around 120 or 130 and I think that was too warm Hopefully next week I'll be brewing with these hops. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

    Hops Drying Concerns

Hopefully someone out there can help with an issue I keep having while drying my hops. I just picked my Willow Creek hops and am in the process of using a food dehydrator to dry them. They started out with a great, fruity aroma but now I'm only getting fresh cut grass!! I've got the dryer...

Cleaning taps - how and how often?

I must be lazy! Every time I empty a keg, I wash the keg and then put a gallon of hot water and a scoop of One Step in the keg. Shake it up real good and run it through the tap that was just emptied. When I'm ready to fill the keg with the next batch I always sanitize with Star San and run it...

Brizzo Just moved the beer to secondary and the sample has a very unique citrus flavor. Can't decide if it's grapefruit or pineapple.

Not sure about the Willow Creek. They had a light lemony/grassy smell when dried. My first brew with them is in the primary right now. I used the Willow Creek @ 15, 10 and 5 minutes and when transferring to the primary there was a unique citrus smell. I'm still trying to put my finger on the...

    2016 Hop Growing Thread

Picked all my plants within the last week, Centennial, Willow Creek, Chinook and Cascade. Got almost 5lbs of Cascade and 2.6lbs of Chinook, both wet. It's amazing the amount of water the cones hold. I dried the Chinook and ended with only 11oz from the 2.6lbs. Chinook on the left and...

HarborTownBrewing. Here are a couple of pictures of my Chinook and Centennial. It's hard to tell from the pictures but the cones are already spreading apart. My Cascade plant still has another couple of weeks.

My hops are going crazy this year. Should I train the side shoots to attach to the ropes or just let them span into free air??

Great Lakes Hops - Hop Plants (not rhizomes)

I live in Grand Rapids so I bought my hops plants direct. I stopped by on a Sunday and even though they weren't open, the owner spent about a half an hour talking about his plants and even allowed me to make a purchase. Great place.

2nd year Cascade and Chinook. The Centennial and Willow Creek are a bit behind. Now I just need to figure out which vines to trim.
