    I’m curious about the controllers used in the Unibrau v3 and Clawhammer. Are they essentially similar internally, just with different “user interface”? I like just about everything with the Unibrau, but the price difference is significant....

    Irish Stout Summer Stout

    Not sure how we hit 1.050 since BeerSmith estimates it at 1.041. We recently brewed a batch with 8 pounds of Maris Otter, 1.25 each of Carapils, Flaked Oats and Roasted Barley, 2.5 oz of Fuggles (4.7%)...hit the 1.058 estimated by BeerSmith right on the nose.

    @m00ps, how do you account for the wort lost to absorption at the different phases? Even with pellet hops, you'll lose a lot of wort/beer. Do you just tweak trub loss amounts in BeerSmith?

    @EtchyLives, glad to hear it turned out so well! Especially since you made 20 gallons.... @Darth_Malt, the 4oz of roasted wheat sounds like a nice addition...I'll try that when we brew this again in a few weeks.

    We increased each of the malt quantities by 25% to get a higher alcohol content...then adjusted the hops to keep it balanced.

    I thought I'd try a heavy dose at flameout and steep for 10 minutes rather than dry hop...I've heard recently that they have similar affect on aroma. Thoughts?
