    help improving 60% efficiency

After getting a new mill and setting the gap at 0.035" I saw my efficiency go up 10 points to about 75%.

    help improving 60% efficiency

1/16" is 0.0625", which seems like a pretty large gap setting. I think most use somewhere between 0.030-0.050".

STC 1000 defective out of the box.... anybody else?

Also keep in mind that it will not start cooling right away when it gets above the set temp. There is a delay built in to keep your fridge from short cycling. If you haven't already, try giving it a minute to cycle on.

STC 1000 defective out of the box.... anybody else?

I had a similar problem with a new STC-1000 except mine would only cool. At first I thought I must have wired it wrong and spent a lot of time troubleshooting only to determine the relay for the heater power was bad. After convincing the seller that it was not functioning properly they sent me...

    Calculating ABV after backsweetening?

You shouldn't need a gravity reading after adding the juice or whatever you you use to back sweeten as long as no more fermentation is taking place. You just need the volume of liquid added. From there it's just a simple dilution factor based on your original alcohol content and volume added

    Kegerator as fermentation cabinet?

You will probably need an external temperature controller to keep consistent ale temps, but other than that you should be good to go. I have an old BevAire that was struggling to stay below 45F in the summer so I took off the tower and now use the unit as a fermentation chamber. With the...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Dryhop it is. This sounds good since I wanted to stay fairly close to the original recipe. Thanks

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Any advice on working an oz of citra into this recipe? I found an extra oz in the freezer and was thinking about maybe a late addition or dryhop. I'm not too familiar with citra so any help would be appreciated.

    Keggle

The only benefit I see from a false bottom on a boil kettle would be to filter out whole hops. I use a side pickup tube on my keggle and have no issues with using an immersion chiller.

    Towers on Keezers

One other thing to consider is wall clearance when trying to open the lid with the tower attached. If I want to open mine fully, I have to move the keezer about a foot away from the wall.

    Towers on Keezers

I wondered the same thing because you don't see many people doing it. I had an old kegerator that wasn't cooling properly and had no issues taking the tower off of it and placing it on a chest freezer. One issue you may run into is foaming due to temperature differential, but you can fix that...

Newell's Groundhog Cider (woodchuck amber clone)

A previous post noted 48 oz of concentrate (4 cans) taking the fg from 1.008 to 1.029. Let us know your results.

Newell's Groundhog Cider (woodchuck amber clone)

Put a batch of this together this weekend as my first try at cider. Followed the recipe just as PilotCline did. I may be speaking too soon, but it was so easy I don't know why I haven't done this sooner. Does anybody have any experience bottling this from the keg? I was considering trying...

    Full Boils

Check out BIAB (brew in a bag) if you haven't already. If you have the ability to do full boils and chill all you need to go all grain is the bag. It's an easy way to go AG and many, including myself, have had great results.

Right on Beardo! I have also seen a Gaelic recipe while flipping through the same binder.

WNC Brewer / Highland Cold Mountain Clone

I imagine so. Of course it can't hurt to make a purchase while your there. They are great guys and very helpful. All of their recipe kits are kept in a big binder at the front counter and customers are welcome to flip through it. I believe that most are listed as partial mash recipes (extract...

WNC Brewer / Highland Cold Mountain Clone

Thanks for sharing the recipe. I've got my hands on a couple pints of Cold Mountain this year, but not enough to quench my seasonal thirst for the stuff. I'm not sure if this is a similar recipe or not, but the guys at Asheville Brewers Supply have a clone recipe on file in the store. If...

    Stuck Fermentation?

Switched to airlock today, but haven't gave it enough time to really tell if it's going. I'm guessing it is not because I took a SG reading and it was at about 1.048. I do have a pale ale in another carboy that I was planning on kegging this weekend. If my SG hasn't changed by then, does...
