How Many Gallons of Homebrew in 2018?

One. My first batch in over two years, I brewed a one-gallon, extract kit, that Northern Brewer (the only HBS near me, and, being based in Minneapolis, it's as local as it gets) claims to be a Pliny The Elder clone. I'll know next week if it's any good. I might do a one-gallon all-grain kit...

    Sam Adams Cherry Wheat....

I used to love it, but after having a bottle of New Glarus' cherry beer, I'll never go back.

Styles of Beer You Just Can't Stand

Pumpkin beers. I get pumpkin spice latte, but I have yet to get a pumpkin beer I can stand.

PLEASE let the Northern Brewer buy-out be a hoax!

Since nobody has been able to confirm this, I am going to assume that it was a false alarm.

    Craft/Homebrewing Neighborhoods in Twin Cities

Let me be clear: I am NOT being forced to move anywhere because of beer. I am moving to the Twin Cities for a job. A real job. But, I like drinking craft beer. I like making beer. I need to find my next residence in the next month or two, and I was wondering what neighborhoods are the most...

    What are you drinking now?

Waldos' Special, a crazy-dank from Lagunitas. It's great, but I couldn't drink more than one in a sitting.

What came in the mail for you today?

Nothing, since the collection ball. However, I will be getting a major non-brewing item: a new set of boxing gloves - training gloves, to be specific. My parents bought me a bag for Christmas, and the gloves they got were too small, and they're already falling apart. Bad QC.

    FastFerment - My Experience

I have a collection ball, which FastFerment sent to me, in exchange for a review on Northern Brewer. I basically said that the product was fine, but that it represented something more fundamentally important: an affordable conical. Unfortunately, due to my current budgetary restrictions, to be...

    America on Tap - Hawaii

That's why I skipped this year's Madison event. Clueless staff, iffy organization, few taps. Plus, the next day was my nephew's baptism, and I didn't want to be hung over.

What came in the mail for you today?

I received a collection ball for a FastFerment that I don't own. It'll have to wait until I get a new job, so that I can get a new induction burner, a FastFerment, and a BrewJacket. In due course, I suppose.

    Weekend drive thru Wisconsin!

You know, being a lifelong resident of the Madison areaI sort of take New Glarus beer for granted.

    FastFerment conical fermenter??????

I'm getting a free collection ball. I should probably get the FastFerment, too. If I get the BrewJacket, then I will have a rig capable of making whatever beer I want, apart from the weird ones.

    Poll: Are you a musician?

I started on cello, and regularly play guitar, bass, drums, and sing. I would say that I have a working knowledge of about a dozen instruments, but I would never describe myself as a master of any of them.

    Homebrewing slump...

I'm in an incredible slump - I haven't brewed since July 4, and I can't seem to get back into it. I want to, badly, but with a leaky immersion chiller that I can't seem to fix, and absolutely no way to get the temps down low enough with a minimal footprint/budget, it has ground to a standstill...

    What are you drinking now?

A 2013 Chimay blue, which I had been aging. It was saturated with subtle flavors; that may sound contradictory, but compound it, and it will make sense.

    Naming Question

Good evening, What's sour AND smoky? I'm thinking of a brown ale, that is very sour, but uses smoked malt, and although I can usually conjure up some tangentially-related name, I'm drawing a blank on this one. Thank you.

    Sonoma/Napa

If you're a guitar player, going to Lagunitas has another plus: it's a block away from Mesa Boogie, who make some of the best amps in the business.

You know you're a home brewer when?

...You spend hours looking for induction burners large enough to accommodate your MegaPot.

    Prepping for a colonoscopy..

My parents explained to me that after they finished their prep, and after the colonoscopy procedure itself, they each felt so clean, that they didn't want to spoil the moment by eating. They told me this, while we were eating chili.

Kari Poikolainen's "Perfect Drinking and Its Enemies" Book: What is Moderate Drinking

No, I like the idea that he's a crackpot even better. And, I'm saying this, as I slowly sip my imperfect, yet satisfying, IPA.
