So...I have seen many threads on this using the search function, but can't really find the one to answer my question.
I use an immersion chiller to cool my wort. It takes anywhere from 40-50 minutes to cool it down just letting it run with cool water for the first half and ice water for the...
Inquiring minds would like to know about dry hopping when i have a CDA that needs an ounce of cascades for 5-7 days yet I wont keg until probably 14-17 more days once my next keg kicks. Should I try to time it and wait a bit, or throw it in a hop bag and retrieve after 7 days if its not ready...
So my mom who refuses to quit buying me gifts though I tell her I am 29 and its totally unnecessary asked me if I wanted a beer gun for christmas. I recently bought the very cheap items for the DIY beer gun so I told her it wasnt necessary. I was still trying to figure out how the hell she knew...
I have done an IPA, milk stout, coffee stout, rye pale ale, Oktoberfest and an Irish red.
I want to brew this weekend, but am open to suggestions for inspiration. I do all grain BIAB 5 gallon batches.
What do you got HBT? :rockin::mug:
Sharing my brew day yesterday with you all. It was a good day. Falcons/Packers gameday (Rise up!). Georgia Tech won Saturday, UGA lost...it was a great weekend! Beautiful fall weather and what better to supplement the weekend than a brew day? So, I wanted a rye pale ale. Sweetwater had a rye ale...
Hello fellow homebrewers!
I did a mega brew day yesterday. I combined brewing and building all in one day. In the time it took for me to mash, I was able to build an awesome new addition to my ever expanding homebrew operation. I am a CPA, so naturally I am in tune with not only brewing beer...
Hey all! Quick question...I am gonna have me a little brewing apprentice here in about a month and my wife is ready for a beer. Dersevedly so I might add. She requested a coffee stout so I found a delious recipe full of maris otter, crystal 40, carafa II, oates and barley. The wort that combo...
So my hop bines didn't yeild any cones this year. I had great growth on the bines. I built a 7 foot trellis and I planted the rhyzome in April. The had reached the top if the trellis by June. Very thick. My magnum appears to be the only one that made it. I think one cascade survived the GA heat...
So, I decided to use a hop bag during the boil this time to try and get a clearer beer. Not for any reason other than to see if it makes a big difference or not. But, I wasn't totally thinking and I removed the hop bag before cooling the wort and transferring to the fermentation bucket. I am...
Hi all-
I planted some cascade and centenniel hops back in April and the bines are doing really well. About 7 feet right now. Lots of leaves and at least 3 nice bines per rhyzome.
My question is when can I expect to start seeing some cone buds? I know the first year is low yield but with...
My birthday is coming up and my mom asked me today what I would like for my birthday. I normally dont ask her for anything but with this new hobby of mine, I figured a new piece of equipment would be great. My wife is growing tired of me brewing inside and quite honestly I would die if I had a...
Hi all -
Brand new to homebrewing. I am 4 batches in. I have decided that I want my Irish Red recipe to be my house beer. I love Irish Red's and my first attempt at a non-kit recipe was the one below. I had plans of tweaking it a bit, but now I have switched to BIAB all grain from extract. I...
So there was an advertisement from home brew supply on here and they have a 5 gallon keg, gas line, beer line and regulator for $120 and after a 5% discount $113. This beats the crap out of any keg system I've seen this far by about $120. Wasn't planning debating kegging so soon but that price...
Doing a 2 row malt and 2.5 ounces of citra hops only. American IPA. Wyeast 1272 American Ale yeast. My LHBS guy recommended that particular yeast for 2 row to keep it from being too dry.
One very important question. I'm doing 4 gallons. I have an 8 gallon pot and I've read that it's is possible...
Is it ok in the fridge until the morning. The bag puffed up and everything. Waited the 3 hours and just got tired. Plan on getting up bright and early to brew. Wyeast website says that it's fine and to just bring up to room temp before pitching. Is that the consensus amongst the experienced...
I just read the article on SMaSH brewing and I was planning on doing a Brewers best IPA kit this weekend as my first foray into IPA's. But now I'm thinking to learn about what I'm doing to create my own IPA I need to start with the essence of the beer and tweak from there. That means SMaSH brew...
Dammit. They had just started to break the soil and my wife let my dog on the deck today unattended and he dug them up. She said some if the sprouts fell off. I'm thinking I need to go ahead and buy more before the supply runs out. She thinks they can still be planted but I'm not too interested...
So...I Brewer 9 days ago a rye pale ale and I'm still a bubbling in the air lock. My Brewers best kit said 5-7 days. Should I be concerned? What does an elongated primary fermentation session mean? I am wanting to throw the dry hops in but not before the process has concluded.
Hey guys. Bottled my first time ever last Saturday night. I have heard to pop one open starting after a week in the bottle to check for appropriate carbonation. I was going to wait for 2 weeks but I picked up a bottle this morning and gave it a little jostle just to see if it behaved like a...
I know the secondary racking is discussed ad nauseum here but I've seen the only times it is probably best to do it is adding fruit or dry hopping. Can you not just throw in the hops in primary after primary fermentation period and get the same effect?
