I have to measure but since the bottom of the keg is concave I think the dip tube is more like 1 in to 1 1/2 in from the bottom. i'll double check.
I do fly sparge and I am usually pretty good about pouring the sparge water evenly over grain bed and keeping a couple of inches of water on top of...
So i have been brewing all grain for about a year and have been using a 10 gal cooler to mash with bazooka screen. I want to make bigger batches so I converted a keg with a false bottom. Since I moved to the keggle my efficiency has been way off. With the cooler I was getting around 75% eff. Now...
I am getting into using camlocks. I bought an F style camlock to screw into my stainless ball valve. Is Teflon tape needed when screwing the f cam into the ball valve? Can't find the info on bargain fittings.
So I was brewing and when I had 15 min left I put my wort chiller in the pot to sanitize. When I did the rubber washer in to hose adapter part fell into the boiling wort. I wasn't able to find it until the boil finished and all the wort was in a carboy. Should I toss the batch? I'm not worried...
No I won't be mashing any other base malts. Ill just be using 5.5 gal of the premade wort. I used beer calculus and if I steep the 6lb it should bring me to 1.070 according to them. 6lb does seem like alot and I was wondering if people do actually steep this much grain.
I will be attending a group brew day and a local brewery is supplying everyone with premade 2row wort with a OG of 1.050. I was wondering how I can add specialty malts to this. I know steeping is an option but can you steep ~6lb of specialty malt? I want to turn this premade wort into a porter.
Ok, so I did something real stupid. I made 2L starter last night for my washed yeast and for the most part all was going well. I left the starter cool down for a while. I checked the temp a little while longer and it was around 120 deg so I left it alone. This is when I screwed up.....
I got...
I don't think you can use corn flakes. Flaked corn looks different then corn flakes. I think people have used instant grits instead of flaked corn though.
