    Pot size and what soil

I planted my hops in mineral lick tubs that the local farmers get when they buy minerals for their cattle. They are black plastic and are the size of a half barrel. They are rather heavy, too heavy when wet, to move around. The reason I like this size is that in my zone 5 area the hops can...

    wild hops

Finally!! After 2 and a half weeks I finally was able to find and dig up a hops plant. I was able to get about 2 ft of roots with the start. The trouble was that it was growing in the middle of a rasberry briar and I couldn't tell what start was what. Had to wait to see some true leaves...

    Typical Rhizome Size

The cenntenials I received this year were only the size of my middle finger. The Nuggets looked about the size of a roosters foot with three toes and the other was three times that size with three offshoots.

    wild hops

This weekend I'm going to transplant some wild hops that my neighbor has out in his pasture. Neither he or his dad knows the variety and from it's location doesn't look to be planted there by any person but rather by mother nature. This plant has some beautiful cones on it every year and has...

Co-planting with hops for pest control

I saw you mention catnip. Personally I would stay away from any of the mint family. They have a tendency to be invasive. I have one flower bed that has been overran with catnip. No matter how much pulling I do they still seem to come back. I like to use marigolds in my planting beds and...

First Year Cascade and attempt at growing

Best of luck with your new hops. I like the idea of using an existing fence for support. You aught to be able to weave in a new upright rather easily with minimal effort. Good idea.
