Good DME base recipe for testing hop flavours

I'd quite like to get an idea of the effect different hops have on the flavour/bitterness etc of beers so I was thinking of brewing a set of 1 gallon batches and using a single hop in each. I only do DME recipes but wondered whether anyone had a suggestion for a good base that would really...

    Low starting gravity

I adapted an IPA recipe but the starting gravity was predicted to be way too high so I cut back on the dme and honey to 5lbs and 0.5 lbs (instead of 6lbs and 1lbs). Ibrewmaster predicted the OG to be 1.077 (which is what I wanted) but it came out to 1.048. I'm concerned this may make a bad beer...

what effect will these changes have on my IPA?

Thanks for the reply and general suggestions for IPAs. My real question is how different will my IPA be based on the changes and what differences am I likely to notice. The parenthesis are the alternatives I got, I'll edit the original post to make it clearer. Not sure if its the same thing...

what effect will these changes have on my IPA?

My last batch was my first IPA and it turned out amazing (even SWMBO liked it and she doesn't like IPAs!). It was supposidly a clone of DFH 60 minute but unless the bottle I bought hadn't been stored well, it was nothing like it (not that I minded as I prefered mine). I tried to get the...

Is there anywhere in this fridge I should (or shouldn't) drill?

Thanks all. I hadn't thought about bending down to the right rather than the back. I will have to have a look at the icebox when I unscrew it and see how flexible the inlet lines are and how easily the left side will bend flat if i put it on the side rather than the back. I've barely worked...

Is there anywhere in this fridge I should (or shouldn't) drill?

Thanks. I see some experimentation ahead of me. If I'm careful, if it won't bend down hopefully I can put it back in the initial place and at least have a fridge that works for something.

Is there anywhere in this fridge I should (or shouldn't) drill?

To avoid having to read the whole post, I want to know whether I can safely drill through the sides (or back) of the fridge shown below and also would appreciate any comments on my plans. So onto the details and photos..... I have a small GE Fridge similar to the one below that I want to...

Dry saison yeast (or best option) and any recommended recipes

I think my next brew will be a saison but I can only use dry yeast (shipping issues). Is there a dry saison yeast? Looking around it appears the answer is no and if so, would I be OK using Safbrew T-58 or is there a better option? While I'm pasting, if anyone has a great dry extract saison...

    Advice for small fridge deconstruction...

Guess it might be a bit late to revive an old thread but could either of the people who did this (or anyone doing similar) manage to get 2 corneys in there? I have a similar looking fridge (thread and details at https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/what-can-i-do-fridge-small-ge-3-7cuft-353044/) and...

What can I do with this fridge (small GE ~3.7cuft)

I have the fridge in the image below (if I manage to attach it!). It is a small GE fridge, similar to GE TA04Y07EXSO. I did keep bottles in it but recently moved to kegging. I have a chest freezer with temperature control for fermentation chamber and am currently using it as a kegerator with...

First time kegging - any last minute tips?

Thanks for all the help. I got home on Friday and the guage was reading the same - no leakage. I also couldn't control myself and tried the beer on friday night after 24 hours at 30psi. It tasted great although (a little) undercarbed. Didn't stop me having a couple of pints though! Put the...

First time kegging - any last minute tips?

Thanks. It's a 20lb cylinder, looked a bit grubby but nothing untoward and showed almost full after sitting around for a week. I was fairly liberal with gas use when I was running through the process and cleaning/sanitising so was probably slightly lower than 100% to when it went into the...

First time kegging - any last minute tips?

Well, I did it. Sampled the flat beer and it was amazing (top batch so far, great hoppy flavour without being too bitter). All seemed to go well last night but when I looked this morning my tank pressure is low. Now the tank was filled at arounf 80F and looked full and it's now sitting in the...

First time kegging - any last minute tips?

set and forget at 30 or shake? I like the idea of being able to enjoy a pint on saturday!! Edit - as I posted that so did other people! Think I'll follow the repost from slcdawg. I'm starting to think I owe Yooper beer too (Revvy already on the list from all the help!)

First time kegging - any last minute tips?

I'm kegging my first beer tonight (first kegged, not first brewed). It's a DFH 60 minute clone that has been sitting in the primary for the last 5.5 weeks, dry hopping for the last 8 days and cold crashed for the last 24 hours. For carbing I intend on using higher pressure for 24 hours...
