After a bit of a drinking hiatus I'm now back and in relative style. Saw one of these at the store and just had to give it a shot, certainly not disappointed. Nice, thick and persistent head, good mouthfeel and some nice roast flavours that remind me of very dark chocolate with hints of coffee.
Decided to try a homebrew English IPA, turned out a bit darker than expected (the lighting makes it look even worse) and I could use a bit more hops next time. Still turned out quite crisp and refreshing.
Well I've finally had my first Sierra Nevada Hoptimum. Sadly I have to report that I found it a bit too sweet, combined with the dank hop aroma it kind of gave me odd medicinal vibes. Sadly just not my cup of tea, I guess.
Tried brewing my first IPA today and ran into some difficulties. Exceeded my mash efficiency but I've apparently messed up something with my boil off rate and I'm now stuck with a very hoppy Pale Ale. I think and hope that it'll still end up being decent.
HB Best Bitter for me tonight. While It's certainly not going to win me any awards, it'll serve just fine for quenching my thirst and as a learning step.
Enjoying some Czech beer tonight. Both good, but I prefer the amber one. All in all, this is really making me eagerly await my visit to Czechia later this year.
Brewing a 2,6 gallon SMaSH pale ale with Styrian Wolf as a way to get a feel for the particular hop and as a test for my efficiency.
Brewday going smoothly thus far.
Brewing a dark mild tomorrow. Hoping to test the improvements on my hunk of junk, knock-off corona mill.
Hoping I actually get a higher efficiency this time around.
Enjoying this Hazy Pale Ale before bed. Nice and velvety smooth with a very citrusy flavour due to Citra and Ekuanot. Picked it up on a whim and I certainly don't regret the purchase.
My absolute pleasure.
I'd certainly recommend giving it a try. I've only had a few up until now, but I'm definitively a fan.
Might work well as a February beer, one could argue you could try it even sooner though. ;)
P.S. Nice avatar.
