John, I don't know if it hurts the hops I never thought about it. Many Mr Beer kits I've made had an off taste until I started boiling them. I'm sure that it probably does dink the aroma a bit. But I HATE cooties kill them all!!!

Also you need to put teflon tape on the threaded cap before each use or it's almost impossible to get back out.

one thing i would recomend though, would be to fill the filter completely with sanitizer and push it out with CO2 before filtering beer. otherwise you will get a lot of extra oxygen uptake with that thing... also, how does cleaning work? audger, I never thought of the oxygen uptake...
