    Non-Alcoholic Beer Poll

My wife and I have mostly quite drinking so my brew gear is sitting neglected. I still prefer the taste of regular beer to any NA product I have found but would love to be able to brew a great NA beer. Vacuum distillations seems to be the best method, but likely not achievable for the home...

    Distilling to get non-alcoholic beer?

Good episode. Thanks! Seems like the biggest issues are too much bitterness, loss of hops flavor/aroma, and oxidation. I think I’ll try doing most of my hopping during the second heating. I’ll flush the kettle with CO2 to prevent oxidation as much as possible. One nice thing about living at...

    Distilling to get non-alcoholic beer?

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I am very aware that distilling alcohol is illegal. I’m not interested in collecting the alcohol, just gettin rid of it. This is mostly an academic investigation. I heard if a brewery, Wellbeing Brewing, thy is doing this (or something similar) and it got me...

    Distilling to get non-alcoholic beer?

I’m curious if anyone has used distillation techniques to get a non-alcoholic beer? Assuming you started with a regular beer recipe, would the leftover liquid in the still be a drinkable brew? My wife and I are considering a move to stop drinking alcohol but I love beer and brewing. I’m...

    Help tweaking Oktoberfest

Absolutely right, it is the recipe from BCS! I hadn’t thought of trading Vienna for Munich. Thanks!

    Help tweaking Oktoberfest

It’s definitely a good beer, and I don’t want to mess it up! I like the idea to lager longer and see if the alcohol will smooth out. Thanks!

    Help tweaking Oktoberfest

A few thoughts I have had to add malt and lower/balance out alcohol. 1) add 1/4 lb more caramunich 2) add slightly more calcium to balance more toward malt 3) two step fermentation - 148 then 154 4) decoction mash I’m wary about changing the fermentation because it had a great balance of...

    Help tweaking Oktoberfest

We brewed an Oktoberfest/Marzen recently and I’d like some input on tweaking it a bit. It was our second lager and turned out pretty good (scored 44 from our HBC). The two biggest comments were that it had a little alcohol heat at the end, and that it needed more malt flavor. Otherwise it was...

Why do we all use Freezers vs. Refrigerators?

Big fan of mini-fridges here. They are cheap and adaptable. I’ve used them for both our fermenters and kegerator. Easy enough to pull the fridge system out of the box and install it in a custom built box or whatever you have!

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

As always Brundog, your ideas are excellent and thought provoking!! I’ll be interested to see how the beer turns out and if DMS is an issue. Should be pretty easy to find a good use for the water so it’s not wasted. Collect it, add some PBW and use it for cleaning up!
