1 Gallon jug as primary for winemaking?

Hi all, I'm just getting started making wine at the 1-gallon scale. My question is whether using a 1-gallon glass jug as a primary will work, and whether there are significant advantages to using a 1.5 or 2 gallon fermenter (aside from having more room to stir the wine and avoiding issues of...

Help! I need a name for the small-batch kits I make. Best suggestion gets a free kit!

tdhickey is the winner, with HopBox! Nicely done! This was a tough choice, as there were some pretty amazing names thrown out there. Haha collectively I think we've come up with just about every portmanteau with the words brew, beer, and box. Thanks, guys, for all the wisdom and feedback as I...

Help! I need a name for the small-batch kits I make. Best suggestion gets a free kit!

Jon - It could end anytime, but man, good names are still coming out of the woodwork (sorry, awful attempt at a joke)! Maybe we can put it to a vote? Btw not to let the cat out of the bag, but I'm really liking Hop Box. Who's going to step up and take credit for that one?

Help! I need a name for the small-batch kits I make. Best suggestion gets a free kit!

Hey all! So I recently started designing and building these small-batch brewing kits out of reclaimed wood (read: a brewing setup your S.O. won't give you crap for leaving around the house!), but I can't think of a catchy name to call it...any ideas? I'm giving away the smallest kit (4th & 5th...

Where to find 5 liter demijohn (dama?) stateside?

I know it's a bizarre question as the measurement is in liters, but has anyone been able to track down these things in the U.S.? They seem readily available overseas, but shipping costs can get pretty crazy. If not this exact product, then maybe you guys know of another glass fermenter in the...

Word of Warning - Avoid Glass Airlocks Like the Plague

No matter how cool and interesting you think they may look, think again. Earned myself 17 stitches yesterday trying to remove the damn thing from my fermenter. USE PLASTIC!!!

    New self-contained small-batch rig

Thanks Garrett! It's been interesting to experiment with the layout/organization, since brewing tidbits seem to just float randomly around the house without some kind of permanent spot to store them. I'll try and switch over to cobalt blue for the 1L bottles to help mitigate light poisoning...

    New self-contained small-batch rig

Haha thanks for the feedback on my meth maker, guys. Made this while in the midst of watching Breaking Bad, so that might just explain it. :D It's definitely on the small side, designed to test 1 gallon batches, 2 at a time (single serving anyone?). 1 gallon in the primary, and 1 in the...

Small space brew stands and equipment storage

I have a larger all-grain setup too (wayyy too ugly to post on here) but here's something I've been working on for experimental 1 gal batches.

    New self-contained small-batch rig

I'm excited to give this setup a try! I've been brewing for years but never had a setup that actually looked half-decent (or didn't look like it might've contained toxic waste at one point). It's made from reclaimed wood and is designed to be super-portable - and if I happen to leave it hanging...
