Sorry i have not replied to this yet. plumber_bob, It worked out perfectly. I started out with the cooler about half way with regular tap water. Ran it for a few minutes and it took about 3-4 minutes to get it down to 160. After that i drained out the hot water, added in about a few...

    Self contained immersion chiller

Will do thank you for the input. I already know I have to do mods after a test run. But will do a smash on Sunday to try it out. Don't want to spend too much on a batch for it to ruin it.

Agreed with every ones posts. All of us has there own techniques to do this. Depends on equipment grain bill ect.. Diy hlt

Yes a step or uni bit is the best way to get a clean cut hole. Will go through aluminum nice and softly. And as long as you don't apply a lot of downward pressure a 18v drill will work just fine. Just go slow.

keeping beer sample in bottle for hydrometer readings?

Was wondering if anyone has done this. After adding yeast and before sealing it. Could you take a sample, put it in a 12 oz bottle with foil over it. And just use that as you want to check your hydrometer readings? Won't have to worry about opening primary since you have a sample already. And of...
