What the heck is this growing???

Thank you sfgoat and ubnserved for the feedback. I was hoping it was a monster yeast raft. Just haven't seen one that large. Yes, this is the exact same recipe: 4gal apple juice, 96oz apple juice concentrate, 3tsp pectic enzyme, 3 tsp yeast nutrient, 2tsp yeast energizer, nottingham yeast. The...

What the heck is this growing???

This is my 3rd cider. First two came out great. With this batch, i Added Super-Kleer KC Finings. Two days later, this monster was lurking. It's now been 1 week. It must be alive because it floats then sinks then repeats. Has anyone experienced amoebas like this before? BTW, the cider smells...

What I did for beer today

I bottled my Spiced Winter Ale. After that, racked cider to secondary and added spices (cinnamon, nutmeg and pumpkin spice aged in vodka). Feeling a little unsatisfied, i sat down and popped open one of my ice cold hard ciders....satisfaction achieved :ban:

Fantastic Hard Cider Recipe with Instructions (and fall spice / cherry variations)

This was my first time making hard cider. I followed the directions on this thread. I must say, "FRACKING AWESOME!!!!" It turned out great. OG was 1.064, FG was 0.999, then after adding 36oz of apple juice concentrate to sweeten it up, the new FG was 1.012. A nice ABV 6.83%. I bottled one...

    Where's the bubbles?

Every brew i've made (A whole 6 batches :D), i attached a blow off tube with other end in water and star san. When fermentation begins, the bubble activity is intense. Well, this current brew, a Spiced Winter Ale also has blow off tube. The yeast are in sugar heaven, swimming and eating...

    NB Spiced winter ale suggestions

I brewed this Spiced winter ale today (well, yesterday now), with some modifications. The mulling spice pack had way too many cloves for me. I hand picked 27 clove spears out and left 10 spears. Added 1/4 tsp of cinnamon and 1/4 tsp of nutmeg. I also added 1oz. of bitter orange peel. The...

    NB Spiced winter ale suggestions

Tomorrow, I'm brewing a Northern Brewer's Spiced winter ale. Some of the reviews say that its too heavy on the cloves. Others say they added orange peel. Has anyone brewed this beer, and if so did you make any changes to the recipe? I smelled the mulling spices and it does have a strong clove...
