    New Kettle Time

wow! lots of new info. after carefully rereading everyone's post i think 15 gal is the prudent choice. things like 120 min boils and full boil BIAB sound like fun. also a 15gal will fit on my range because unfortunately i don't have a hood. however the range is recessed in my counter so it...

    New Kettle Time

thanks guys for the quick responses. BOWTIE: my budget is somewhat flexible but i have limits. my heat source is a turkey fryer in the summer and my gas range in winter. my only goal is to produce great beer, for myself only with the least amount of purchased gear. i have no need for 10gal...

    New Kettle Time

hi all, i'm ready to upgrade my kettle to try some new things like full volume extract boil, and BIAB full volume. i only brew 5 gallon batches and pretty much just high gravity IPA's and Stouts. i think i'm sold on the mega pot 1.2 but i can't decide on the size. i would like to go 10gal...

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

Trinity's Red Swingline IPA Primitif......Absolutely terrible. I didn't like the coriander, far too much tangerine, and i really don't like the lacto/brett taste. On top of all that its only 4.1%. I try most things that come into my beer store, I can't think of anything else I've had this bad.

    AHS Greenbelt IPA

when i tried hopville, i got a 404 error but it seems to be working now. concerning the bittering i reversed the falconers and zythos because the alpha acids are higher on the falconers. would this not increase bitterness? i'll punch it all into the calculator now. thanks

    AHS Greenbelt IPA

i've tried finding a beer calculator that i can put this hop schedule into but i can't find one that lists the falconers or the zythos. if anyone has any thoughts it would be appreciated.

    AHS Greenbelt IPA

just curious for some feedback on my idea. i brewed up this recipe a while back and it was the fastest drank batch i've had. i'm ready to try it again but i want to change it up a bit. the original recipe calls for the following hop schedule: 1oz zythos-boil 10.9% .75oz falconers...

    Late Addition Timing

i add mine in the last 5 min with no color difference from a 15-20 late addition. keep in mind that you will get better hop utilization from late addition anyhow, and if you use all the hops in the kit you will get more bitterness. i don't worry about the last 5-10 min of boil for hop utilization.

    I nearly puked!!!

so last night i bottled my annual spruce porter recipe. in an effort to harvest as much of my beer as i could, i placed the fermenter lid under the edge of the fermenter to tilt it back a bit. well if you haven't figured it out yet, the inevitable happened. unfortunately i dropped the lid...

    Need help choosing first brew

i live in a loft apt and my brew room is my closet, where the water heater is too, and where a loop from the heated floor runs through. temp control has been my biggest problem. i settled on putting my fermenters on a stand about 3 feet from the floor. in the first 48hrs or so, i use wet...
