    Hop Suppliers

I get most hops from Hops Direct or YVH. I do get some form Morebeer, William's and other places. I can't ever seem to get all the varieties I want at one place.

    Which Software to pay for?

I've used Brewer’s Friend for few years now. I think it's worth it. Most of the good stuff there is free anyway.

    APEX San Diego...WTF?

This was 23 hours in. Another dry pitch. Strong air lock activity. This batch is split with AY3 and Apex London. I don't know what yeast is better for this recipe because I've never brewed it before. AY3 did very well in an oatmeal stout split batch I did. The big mouth bubbler does make the...

    WLP 838 or 860 Warm fermentation ?

I think w34/70 is best for warm lagers. I've been using 833 in the mid-sixties and 15 psi for my malt focused lagers.

    APEX San Diego...WTF?

I need to do some more split batches. I think San Diego and dry 001 are the same.

    APEX San Diego...WTF?

I dry pitched San Diego yesterday and in less than 24 house the krausen is thick. I really like this yeast. I've used it a lot over the past year with excellent results.

    APEX San Diego...WTF?

I meant Apex. Cali seems to be US-05 to me. San Diego is a little different. It has higher attenuation and better flocculation. I've not used AY4. I have used AY3 it seems like Windsor.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Last week I brewed 15 gallons of Weizenbock. I used the same wort for a WLP-300 starter. I took 3L into a 4L jar shook it a bunch over an hour or so. It took off. After a few hours I pitched it evenly into three fermenters. Today I brewed a Hefeweizen and top cropped the yeast. It's going from...

    APEX San Diego...WTF?

I've done a lot of split batches with San Diego and other Chico strains. San Diego is the only one I still use. It finishes my 5-5.5% ABV brews in a week with a tight cake and clear beer. It repitches fine, but unlike US-05 the first gen is just as good as the second.

can i mimic corn or rice adjunct by lowering my mash temps

I've heard of some people putting beano in the mash (or was it the fermenter?) I have no desire to clone bud light.

    Spring 2024 Corny Keg Giveaway

My last brew was Nectraron Pale Ale. Kegged it yesterday.

    Flotit

It's amazing watching it leave nothing but yeast in there.

Converting 10 gallon stockpot to 3-port (drain, thermo probe, Whirlpool return).

Weldless fittings have worked fine for me. Williams has a $10 22 mm hole punch. It makes a near perfect hole for weldless 1/2 inch pipe fittings. They also sell a 32 mm for water heater elements. I used their cheap step bit to pre-drill for the punches. The $6 step bit alone is probably good...
