Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Habanero IPA

How did this beer come out heat-wise? I know it is subjective, but I went with your ratio just today on a Smoked Habanero IPA that used some smoked malts as well as Simcoe. I read a few other posts though and it seems this may be a ton of habaneros. I was thinking of letting it rest on top...

    Smoked Habanero IPA

Let it sit in primary for a little extra time as it kept bubbling away. First taste is not bad, a nice balanced IPA flavor, with a little bit of residual smokiness underneath it which is just what I was going for. Added in the 2 oz for the dry hop - thinking it might dominate the final flavor...

    Smoked Habanero IPA

Final thoughts. Smells pretty hoppy going into the carboy. Smoke 'scent' is subdued, but was pretty prominent coming out of the mashtun. Fell a little short of my target OG - 1.063 (aiming for 1.070), but it was in part because I didn't hit my target mashout temp. I will keep folks posted as...

    Smoked Habanero IPA

So the final recipe I am in the process of brewing is: 10# Pale Ale Malt 3# Smoked Malt 1# Crystal 20L .5# Flaked Wheat I added the wheat in for a little body instead of CaraHelles or White Wheat, to avoid too much wheat flavor. 60 min at 154F 10 min at 168F I am a touch worried though as...

    Smoked Habanero IPA

Thanks for the initial feedback folks. Perhaps a better way for me to pose this is as a theoretical of what I want to accomplish. I am looking for a peppery sweetness with a smokey finish. The hop profile would be subtle, some bittering characteristic. I picked Mt. Hood for that quality -...

    Smoked Habanero IPA

Playing around with the first beer that I want to have ready for the spring, and wanted to get a little feedback. I was looking around at some different recipes, and wanted to try a bit of a Smoked IPA. My ideal would be to have a subdued smokiness underneath the flavor of hops and spice...

All Grain Batches Coming out Watery

Alright, wow - this got hijacked a touch...a lack of details from my end can do that to a discussion though I suppose ;) My intent was to avoid some of the specifics so we can have a more general discussion about mouthfeel/body and carbonation, as well as potential keg conditioning of a...

All Grain Batches Coming out Watery

Greetings fellow brewers!! This has been a recurring problem for me, so I am not posting a specific recipe here to accompany this, but thought this might be a good kick off for a discussion about watery homebrews. I have done 20+ all grain batches, but I still find that historically I am...

    Electric/Propane Combo Set up

So a Banjo does not have slow heat up times? Enough to do a 30-gallon pot (probably never more than 25-27 gallon of wort)? I have some propane burners from an old grill mount, so it is a bit of a kludge, but could shell out a few bucks on a new burner maybe. Also, am I correct in assuming...

    Electric/Propane Combo Set up

Hi all - Getting ready to build a set up at my place that will combine some electric and some propane elements for heating water, etc. One thing that stuck with me though, is that electric elements, even the low output ones, could potentially char grain that it comes in contact with in...
