    Medieval Burnt Mead!

So... any word on how the mead tasted? I am fascinated by the idea and was curious of the results

    First Mead

I swear this sounds like the post I just put up a few days ago! I used the 'simple mead recipe' myself and after 3 weeks, I racked it off of the lees and the oranges ( according to recipe ), tasted it and thought I created a SUPER STRENGTH PAINT REMOVER. After racking it, I added a campden tab...

    New and confused.

    what is a JOAM?

I think two batches are 'drain' bound...

Pretty much! Its nicer sounding that Homemade Hooch; although that has a certain 'ring' to it...lol!

I think two batches are 'drain' bound...

Actually, when the mead is opened ( several bottles ) its for ceremonial gatherings... so the abundance of mead will not be an issue.;) It's the 'getting the mead right and letting it age' that could be a problem...lol!:drunk:

    Should I be concerned?

Thanks for the encouragement. The update is: I sacrificed my country-style wine (CSW) to the drain Gods. I just didn't look like it was going anywhere ( in a good direction, that is ) The mead, on the other hand, is showing some promise. Case in point; when I racked both the CSW and...

I think two batches are 'drain' bound...

Update... I did sacrifice the country-style wine (CSW), but the mead I am holding on to. That one I will be a little more patient with. When I added the campden tab and potassium sorbate, the mead cleared up nicely. The wine... didn't; it just turned  . My red...

I think two batches are 'drain' bound...

Okay... perhaps this question will answer my others in the mead forum... what happens if CO2 can NOT be expelled properly from the primary? I was using a beginner method for making wine and mead which stated using a balloon with 2 holes in it over a water jub would be fine to use... A...

    Should I be concerned?

That was my first instinct too... and I will hold off for now, too. I love a good science experiment! Just don't know what SUPER GREEN mead should taste like vs. there is something wrong with this batch and I should send it to the 'drain Gods'

    Should I be concerned?

Thanks for the words of advice and encouragement... I am heading out to my local homebrew store this morning to pick up some carboy set-ups, some additives and a hydrometer. I have purposely held off making any other mead until I purchased such items, because I was leary of the...

    Should I be concerned?

Three weeks ago, I started a 'beginner' batch of mead... based on a recipe from the "JOY OF MEAD" website... 31/2 lbs Honey almost a Gallon of water Fleishmans' yeast 2 oranges and cranberries (it called for raisins as a nutriet, but I didn't have those, so I used Craisins) balloon (as an...

So 'new' that I am green...

I've not done a vanilla spice mead, but I've done a cherry vanilla mead and used vanilla extract, and it turned out reasonably well. Use the vanilla sparingly, though. it is REALLY easy to overdo. Good point... I am in the process of making my own Vanilla Extract ( small bottle with 3 beans...

    Spring is upon us...

Thinking about making a Strawberry mead with some of Jersey You-pick-it berries as well as a wine with some Hammonton Blues. I have about 2lbs of Jersey you-pick Strawberries in the freezer from last year as well as about 1 lbs of Jersey Peaches... might make a Ginger/Peach infuzed rum with...

So 'new' that I am green...

This weekend, I plan on purchasing a 3G carboy, 3G bucket ( if there is such a thing - if not, then a 5G ) a 1G bucket and 4 1G glass carboys. In addition to these, I am taking the forum's advice regarding the additives. Most of the recipes I've been reading call for Campden tabs, pot. sorb...
