Help with Sugar free root beer

Hey! I had the same question....There is something you can add that adds some mouth feel - check out maltodextrin. While I haven't used it myself it has been recommended by others. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/how-do-you-make-root-beer-creamier.174392/...

    Sparkling Juice

I do this with apple juice. The kids love it. I bought a carbonator cap and will fill up a 2L bottle with the juice and get it pretty chill. I'll hit it with 30psi and have the kids shake it for a minute or 2. Voila -- tasty. Also I found that if i take unsweetened apple juice (99 cents at...

    First rootbeer Corny

So I took the leap and did my first root beer keg. 5 gallons of Royal Root Beer extract, plain white sugar, and water. Heated up water and sugar on the stove to dissolve the sugar; added extract and sugar to tank and more water..... hit it at 35PSI for nearly a week in the cold storage room...

    Soft Soda Souring?

Hey MichiganMan sorry for the realy late reply.... I like those bottles they are good but these are the ones I use (I can recap them more easily -- growler style). No they dont have to be the same size as each other. http://www.homebrewsupply.com/ez-cap-500ml-amber-flipper-bottles-case-of-12.html

    Soft Soda Souring?

Really good questions; I haven't mastered the art of telling when the glass is fully carbonated as of yet; So I still tend to do one in the plastic bottle. I figure once that one is hard I will chill them all this has been typically 2-3 days for me (maybe my house is cooler?) the glass bottles...

    Soft Soda Souring?

When i carb my rootbeer I find that I have better results using 1) glass bottles and 2) champagne yeast FWIW and YMMV the champagne yeast seems to lend itself to a more crisp flavour. The glass bottles have recently become a personal preference. I cheaped out when I first started and used...

    Olde Fashioned Raspberry -

You've always go great suggestions. I'll hit it up with some lemon juice. My main concern was that I let the bottles sit too long and increased the alcohol content Which in my case would not be welcome or ideal.

    Olde Fashioned Raspberry -

So I just did up a batch of old fashioned style Raspberry soda. i made about 14L with around 8 Cups of sugar ......... this batch was a huge batch IMO but hey its okay. I carbonated with champagne yeast and bottled between PETN bottles and 10 flip tops. I noticed that it took quite a while...

    Keg Carbing - Cold Question / CO2

Okay so I have a question.....I'm going to be kegging something but I need it cold. If i remember my chemistry correctly if I cool my co2 I'm going to lose volume correct? How is it then that I can keep it all cold and still keep good volume / pressure on the co2 tank? As the co2 cools wont I...

    Things Carbonated

I can honestly say that this is something I hadn't considered. I am going to have to try this in some variation or other as I do love me a frosty!

    Things Carbonated

My Brother in law is a bit of a tinkerer. We are currently trying to find an older pressure cooker then drill out the pressure relief valve and then use a tap and die set and put in a pin lock valve to connect with the carbonator cap on the co2 tank. We are trying to overcome the issue...

    Things Carbonated

Turns out its got quite a good kick to it...more than just using sprite or 7up i would say (i've had that before at church functions...similar to like green jello with carrots or something :P ) Anyway -- It would be nice to try and find a way to do a larger volume. The kids sure enjoyed it...

    Yeast in Root Beer

This is true. Anytime you are using yeast to carbonate you will be left with sediment at the bottom. The trick is to open the bottle and let it sit for a moment so it drops out again and or to pour slowly. The only way to truly avoid the yeast is to carbonate with CO2. You can do this...

    Things Carbonated

So... I'm not really sure that this fits into the soda forum but...its not like it can be put anywhere else. A friend and I were enjoying a desert the other night; its one of SWMBO classics it consists of Orange Jello mixed with Lemon pie filling and then chilled and topped with whipped...

Mini Keg Root Beer Set Up?

HI!! This is exactly how I started. Doing the bottle conditioning (yeast method) and then moved to the carbonator cap with 2 liter soda bottles. I am now moving towards using my large corny kegs and force carbonating soda in them. Good luck - Yooper has some good advice on carbonating...
