I'm a relatively new brewer (have done a few extract w/ specialty grains kits). I have tried to absorb as much knowledge as I can (read John Palmer's "How To Brew" which was an awesome read and handy reference).
I am also in the process of putting together a basic electric brew setup in my garage.
