    Secondary headspace and oxidation

I was in the same boat as you, made a beer that i oaked in secondary but carboy was a bit too big for it. I have one of these, http://www.briscoes.co.nz/kitchen/appliances/sodastream/1035755/Sodastream-Pure-Machine.html at home so just got a bit of vinyl tubing and filled the remaining...

    Wheatish Barleywine - Comments?!

Thanks for the assurance guys. Barleywines are not the cheapest to make so good to hear from someone whos had one before. I wasnt aware that it was the wheat proteins that make you drink ur weissbiers relatively quick...

About to by a new brewing kit

I get most of my brewing needs from www.brewshop.co.nz - they have heaps of pre-hopped kits that should be better than the coopers stuff. Ultimately i would recommend you to actually make your own wort from un-hopped extract with the use of some specialty grains. You wont go back to drinking...

    Wheatish Barleywine - Comments?!

Hi guys, I got some WLP351 and lots of Wheat malt left and thought I could make something more unconventional :fro:. The following recipe was born from this: http://www.brewtoad.com/recipes/kremerbraus-wheatwine I have not put too much thought into my hopping schedule as I want to use up...

    Prague and Munich - Advice/Recommendations

I grew up in Munich and yeah +1 to the previous posts. In the inner city Hofbrauhaus is a must (it's very touristy tho, but that might also be its appeal). But Augustinerkeller or any of the other beer-halls are just as good, but less busy (beer is usually better than Hofbrau too). If you are...

    Newbie Belgian Wit (100% infected)

Get some PH test strips (cheap and readily available at pharmacies etc.) and check your Star San solution's PH with it. Your PH should always remain under 3.5 to be as effective as you want it to be. Even when it looks cloudy after having it standing around for a few weeks, it remains effective...

What are New Zealanders using instead of Star San to sanitize?

How come you can't get your hands on some star san? I know that the HBS in Wellington has it in stock and so does almost every online shop. I wouldn't want to miss it anymore, so easy to use! Where are you from btw?

    AG Kolsch Fermentation.

Just tried my first batch of Kölsch yesterday, delish! I would recommend primary for 2-3 weeks and then rack to secondary/bottling bucket and leave at colder temperatures for another 2-4 weeks. Worked for me and beer is tasty&clear Primary for just 1 week seems too short to me

    German Beer Myths?

As a German I can confirm that warm beer is not a common thing (never even seen one anywhere) and pilsner only takes 10 minutes to be poured if you have it poured by an armless person. You should try make your own Glühwein though. Nothing beats the cold better than that!

    Well that was fast...

The Irish Ale yeast has a super fast and brief fermentation. I have used it twice now and both times no visual signs of fermentation after about 48h. Also always get a massive krausen with this yeast. Still, leave it in there for another 2 weeks. It will need it to complete the whole process.

    Water mellon wheat beer

One of my mates just recently brewed a watermelon wheat as well. He actually used the fruit and just scooped out all the insides, put them in a blender and added it to the wort (try to keep everything sanitized!). I think he used 2 melons for a 5 gallon batch. result: pretty good, nice...

    Silly mistakes to avoid...

Hi HBT people, I have only been brewing for a couple of months now and to date have got 3 batches to my name. I have definitely been infected with the home brew fever already however. Just loving the whole process from creating recipes over brewing my wort to tasting the fruits of my labour...
