Trying a modified Altbier this weekend.

Drove an hour one way to meh tooele to support a new local brew pub. The brewmaster used to work at the local home brew shop, I think he started as a home brewer. If you want some great beer and you're in Salt Lake area it's worth the drive to Tooele for Bonneville Brew. I brought 5 growlers home.

We planted some hops two years ago someone gave us. We have four varieties, problem is we don't know what they are for sure. They were not labeled. Is there a field guide to identifying hops?

Anyone use an ale yeast for this? Read a recipe once for a "quick mead" that was supposed to be drinkable in a month or so. It used a beer yeast, I think ale. I can't find the recipe but it had orange, clove, cinimon etc. I would like to try a mead but don't want to wait till Christmas to find...

I've thought about doing smaller batches myself. Not just as a cost thing entirely but also as a way to brew a variety of recipes, tweak and experiment with less risk. Also the space savings. I found a link for small batch all grain kits that looks interesting. Anyone heard of or have thoughts...

Almost bought a Better Bottle the other day out of frugality. $24 instead of $43 at LHBS. Decided glass would be a lasting investment and easier to scrub gunk out. I don't have the room to have my beer equipment soak for long periods to clean.

Going to check tonight before I move to secondary. I thought if it hadn't moved significantly then the fermentation is stuck and if it had but isn't where I want it I might be s.o.l.

Taking advice from my LHBS on a California ale yeast I put my latest primary in a cooler place. He said this strain likes lower 60s rather then mid to highs. I put the primary in my pantry which stays quite cool in the winter. I put a thermometer in there that's stayed at or just slightly below...
