American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

I may be a little behind on this but the OG poster noted a 90 min boil time but the first hop additions were at 60 mins. Is there anyone here who has gotten good results off then original recipe or is this revised one better. Thanks Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    BIAB efficiency without sparging

I use a hydrometer. I've tested it and is accurate. I noticed in BeerSmith adjusting equipment is key. I have changed the boil volume to what the the BIAB calculator states recently but have not tried it yet. I think with having the boil volume set at 5.5 instead of 7-8.5 (depending on grain...

    BIAB efficiency without sparging

Yes. I pull off a 90 street elbow facing down about 1/4" off the bottom. My boil off rate is about 1-2 gallons. I'm thinking if I try doing a recipe calling for 5 gallons it could be throwing off my #'s because I really want 5.5-6 gallons going in fermenter. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Weldless brew stand.

What's the best way to cut this slotted angled iron? I've seen the 18 gauge and 14 at HD or Lowes. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

The bag is custom and is plenty big enough. I'm wondering if I'm going off a 5 gallon recipe and starting with the amount of water I am this could be throwing off my numbers?? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Watsee. Are you draining out the preboil wort over top of the grains? I crush my own at a home brew shop. I run them through twice. I am not sure of the gap. With that much grain I should be hitting the OG every time. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    BIAB efficiency without sparging

I have been using this calculator but it doesn't have efficiency. I build my recipes on Beer-smith which my equipment is set at 70%. So using a combination I guess. I also mill my grains twice. http://biabcalculator.com Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    BIAB efficiency without sparging

Third BIAB session today. Went fairly well. I am not quite hitting my target OG's though. I've noticed over the past three I am short about .004 or so off. I am doing true full Volume BIAB. Starting off with about 8-9 gallons depending on grain bill. I am also adding about a 1lbs to my...

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Made this beer last Sunday. Went ok. Had some serious cooling issues (94 degrees out). Got it down below 80 and pitched wlp300. Added some yeast nutrient at flameout. This thing took off and pretty much got down to FG in like 3 days. Never used hefeweizen yeast before. That yeast eats...

    Dough-in Time?

Hopefully somewhat related but is there a simple way of calculating what the strike water should be per lbs of grain. Also if you are following an all grain recipe should you add more grain to that recipe? I am newer to all BIAB and working with a system designed to do full volume mash for 5...

    Beer smith and setup

Here's some shots as what I have set up so far. Let me know of I'm on the right track. I guess mash tun weight throws me off. Is it referring to the grain bill weight? Al so some other items I'm not sure if set right. Thanks again. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Whirl pooling low or high output

I agree. My biggest con is stirring while trying to chill. It's so tedious to me. Seems like it would take a lot longer if I wasn't stirring so the whirlpool option was a no brainer. I also ended up buying a chugger pump with ball valve to control flow. Bobby from brew hardware told me you...

    Beer smith and setup

Thanks. Does anyone know the best way to find out what I need my strike temp at before adding grain bill? I want to do full boils but unsure where my temp needs to be. I know temp will drop once grain added. Must be a good way of figuring this out. For info purpose I am just getting into...
