Bottling my first high gravity Belgian.

Just brewed Belgian strong today. I already have active fermentation bubbles going in the blow off tube. 1 bubble about every 17 seconds right now. Should be going like mad by morning. I won't be bottling till July so plenty of time to decide on whether to add yeast or not at bottling time. Ryan

Bottling my first high gravity Belgian.

Norse are you just dumping in a whole new pack of wyeast of the same strain or adding yeast back in that you saved. I used the lallemand CBC 4 weeks ago and just added it into the bucket when racking over. Thinking I should have rehydrated as packet stated in warm water. Seems like yeast was...

    Anyone try Lallemand CBC?

I've got a packet at home and I'm going to use this on my next bottling. It's a Belgian Tripel and I had some inconsistent carbonation in my last 2 batches. I was reading through the PDF put out by the manufacture when I saw this post. I can't imagine adding this yeast in will hurt anything but...

    Re-yeast'ing for bottle carbonation?

I'm going to give the bottling yeast a try. Had some varying degrees of carbonation in my last two batches. I got a dry yeast at NB the lallemand CBC-1. This is a dry yeast that is "yeast for cask & bottle conditioning". Hopefully, don't end up with a ton of sediment but the next 2 batches I...

    1st starter going

I've got a batch of tall grass velvet rooster in secondary right now which is a Tripel that starts with a 1.08 OG. I used 2 pack of the 3787 in primary. I racked over to secondary and it had finished above expected ABV! Didn't taste very good though when going into secondary. I have a water bath...

    1st starter going

I've got my 1st starter going on a stir plate. Put in two packs of wyeast Trappist high gravity and I'm planning on doing the extreme brewing Tripel round the world. It's got an OG of 1.09 so it's a big beer. Trying to get the best results I can. I'll be adding o2 for the first time as well from...

What I did for beer today

Bottled an extract Saison DuPont clone! Need to get the next beer going in the pipeline. Nothing in primary or secondary right now. I've got 3 batches bottled though!

    Ideal fermentation temperature.

Key is just to have fun and enjoy it! Nice job finding the pot. One thing I did was wrap sleeping bags around mine and also get it up off the floor on a big folded up beach towel or something like that. An old coat or sleeping bag will keep it a little warmer and also kee out light when it's...

    Ideal fermentation temperature.

Tub with an aquareum water heater. To help maintain more even temp through the water I also bought a small submersible pump. Best money I spent for long term perfect fermentation temp control in a colder Minnesota basement. I probably spent about $80 on the 3 items. The pump had been returned so...

What I did for beer today

I took the intro to all grain brewing at northern brewer in Minneapolis. Learned a lot of different things I didn't know in relation to all grain and just general brewing! Thanks to the guys at northern brewer for putting on a great class!

    First batch seems rather dark

I thought same thing about a Blood Orange Lemon Coriander Weiss in carboy. Looked way lighter in glass once it was bottled and poured. I'll try to post a picture in glass and one from the secondary carbon. I'm now trying to increase my boil sizes in batches I've done since.

    Rocking the carboy

Technically O2 should be at a minimum since the air lock is in place. So you could swish or agitate the beer around a little bit without adding 02. Obviously later on when you are trying to get things to settle out in secondary you don't want this to happen at all. But basic consensus is...

    Rocking the carboy

Just wondering since I've seen it suggested in other places that you should rock the carboy around a little bit with the airlock still in place just to get the yeast back up and into suspension so that they can proceed with fermentation better. Do any of you do this? How much do you do it...
