Hey, i'm about 50 miles east of toledo :) just starting brewing also! getting ahead on my research and stuff first.

a few months ago I would take out a 30 pack alone every few days. Now i've definitely cut back and I only drink a few a week, that until I get my homebrew setup!

I was gonna say what fletchsj said. Get with him one night and just drink some beer, and see what he likes best that you can brew similar to.
