    Cold crash/ Dry hop

I you cold crash after a week are you effectively stopping the dry hopping process?

    Whirlpooling

Ok, so putting in a valve isn't the end of the world. Would I use a pickup tube that just goes against the side?

    Whirlpooling

thanks. Redwing, when you say paint mixer, can you elaborate?

15 or 19 gal kettle for 5 gal batch

Also if you are trying to do a huge beer that has a 90 minute boil, you don't have to have all of the water in the keggle during the mash, it's ok to add water after you pull the bag if needed.

    Whirlpooling

Being a BIAB brewer, I also employ the wilserbrewer hop bags because they came with his combo deal. I recently read about Jamil's modified immersion chiller/whirlpool setup which prompted questions... Is it worth whirlpooling if we're only dealing with break trub? It seems like this...

help saving an "imperial" sweet stout

It's been three weeks since I pitched the extra wlp007 and it's still floating. Should I just rack to the bottling bucket from under it?

    question on conditioning

what is the difference between letting a beer sit and condition in the primary for say 2 weeks after primary fermentation is over as opposed to bottling right after primary fermentation and bottle conditioning for 2 weeks?

help saving an "imperial" sweet stout

When the 005 had finished, the beer was at 1.044. I made a 1L starter with WLP007 and pitched it in after 36 hours on the stir plate. After 3 days it got down to 1.034 but there's a big ol cake on top so I'll wait till it sinks and get my FG.

    OG Limits of BIAB?

Thanks. The Biabacus only lets you input recipes in metric and that seems like a pain to convert everything especially when just playing around with recipes. Do you know if there are plans to allow for standard inputs or a modded version of the spreadsheet that allows it?

    OG Limits of BIAB?

Max, I looked at that calculator and it only tells you how much strike water to use, not how large of a vessel you need. You need to know how much move volume the grain will occupy. I really wish there was an all inclusive biab calculator that worked for both sparge and no-sparge methods that...

help saving an "imperial" sweet stout

I could have but that would have thrown things off in the other direction. It was a sweet stout so we had added lactose and some chocolate too. It's too late for that now. I am trying to find out what is best for this batch. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

help saving an "imperial" sweet stout

We brewed a 3 gallon batch sweet stout yesterday doing biab on the stove and I made a mistake and we wound up with an OG of 1.090 as opposed to 1.068. We used a vial of WLP005 but I assume this will only attenuate down and leave us with a super sweet beer. Should I fire up a 1L starter of...

To sparge or not to sparge

I think they meant different grain bill as in a different recipe of the same volume (lower OG) therefore changing the ratio

Show us your DIY stir plate!

First I thought a high-tech approach was warranted. This is science after all! http://youtu.be/ct50C180UCg Then I decided on a more practical (and power friendly) approach...
