I vote for “let it grow”. At least for the first year. Second too, if the plant is struggling.
A strong plant (grown in the ground) should throw more shoots than you can train by years two/three. Then you will need to start making choices on bull shoots. Growing in buckets could limit...
Not sure if current practice has changed but when I planted rhizomes the general consensus seemed to be let all the shoots grow in year one. It should help the plant get established for strength in future years.
