What is your favorite bittering hop for IPAs?

I like Columbus or Millennium typically. I find that Millennium is more neutral than Columbus. Recently I brewed an IPA with Fuggles(aroma hop I know) as the bittering hop. Very smooth bittering I must say.

    Crazy messed up brew day!!

Plus 3 on the no squeeze. Take that time to setup your post boil gear, checklist. Then, have a beer.

    Best SMaSH recipe you've made???

Golden Promise plus any hops as a pale ale. 40-55 ibu. Cali yeast. I've done 3 now that many different palates have enjoyed. That said. I'm done with smash. I'd rather tweak a known good recipe. YMMV.

Do the characteristics of the krausen indicate anything about the finished beer?

This is a great question. Assuming a perfect world of repeatable processes, environment and ingredients, I do wonder if a visual check indicates consistency.

    Hole in Bag Cautionary Tale

I do stir often. As I noted before, the holes must be to blame! So material wise, poly voile is a stronger material than nylon? My first nylon bag I punctured my virgin BIAB run on my temp probe. Oops. That's hasn't been the case since. So I'm guessing the bag just failed with age. (8 batches...

    Hole in Bag Cautionary Tale

I agree that is the most likely possibility. Never had any burn issues before. Of course I haven't had this much solid material in the boil before. What I have noticed in the past is that the dust(correct word?) tends to stick to the false bottom (top and bottom) and not end up on the bottom of...

    Yeast recommendations

I really like WLP090 San Diego Super Yeast. It drops clean and fast. It's also very neutral, in my opinion. More so than with Safale-05 if you want to let the hops shine more than the yeast. My Safale-04 IPAs have been a hit giving off a fruitier flavor if you want that. I've even pitched both...

How long did it take you to go all-grain?

I brewed about 8 batches with extract and steeping specialty grains before moving to BIAB. My beers are way better now.

    Hole in Bag Cautionary Tale

So I was brewing a Maibock for the first time. Mash went fine, hit my OG. Proceeded to the boil. Now, I was a bit congested that day. About 50 minutes into the boil I notice an off smell. Whatever, I proceeded to finish up and chill through my cfc. The color was darker than expected. So I...
