    Best time to take SG?

It's definitely not too late, the gravity shouldn't have really changed at all in that small of a time period. And honestly, as long as you sanitize all the equipment you take the sample with there's no need to dump it out afterwards, I always add it back to the batch and I've never had any...

First attempt with 5 gallons of organic apple cider

I agree completely, I made a cyser a while back with 1118 and it just tastes so bland and dull compared to the cider I just made with ale yeast.

    Troublesome ferment with costco honey

Well, looks like I found out what the problem was. Apparently when I got yeast nutrient and energizer from my LHBS a while back they were both brownish-tan little baggies that looked very similar, and I'm suspecting that they might have both been energizer. Yesterday I went to a different...

    Troublesome ferment with costco honey

Alright, so let me start off by saying that this is my second attempt with costco clover honey; the first attempt was an abysmal failure that had hardly fermented at all after a few months and eventually went sour. I ended up dumping that batch. Because of the ill results of my first batch I set...

    Buying a drinking horn

Hey, so I've been lurking for a while and finally decided to make an account. My first batch of mead's been in secondary for a few months now and I decided it's high time I buy myself a drinking horn and get to bottling. So after a bit of perusing the web looking for legitimate retailers of...
