I may have just figured it out, for some reason I thought the SSR would control both legs of the circuit and not just one. What is the fourth terminal for on the SSR?
So I have my controller for my Brutus 20 all wired up but I am getting no power to the outlet. The LED on my SSR lights up so it must be getting power but when I test with a multimeter I get no read at all from SSR outlet of the PID. Has anyone else run into something like this?
So I have a new false bottom in the mail to go into a 6 gallon SS pot as a mash tun and I just realized I have no way of connecting that hose barb to the inlet hose barb on the valve. How is everyone else connecting these, high temp silicone hose?
So I have the mash tun and pump in the mail for my indoor Brutus 20 system and am ready to order up a bunch of fittings from bargain fittings but can't quite decide whether or not to go with their cam locks. I was thinking of just using a friction fitting for the hose connections but then got to...
So I am 4 batches in using my e-kettle and my element has a pretty nice layer of blackened crud on it. I clean it off every time with some dish soap and an abrasive pad but I have yet to really dig into it and try to peal all of the blackened bits off. Does everyone else clean their element...
I actually just finished up building something along these lines. I got a 6 gallon Bayou Classic with a steamer insert and use that to keep the bag off the heating element. So far I have used it once without the element on the stove top and it help temp all right but on my last one I used the...
Si I just brewed my first beer using my recently converted e-kettle. When I was done I did a quick PBW soak to clean everything up. While soaking I notice a couple of small white spots forming on the element so I quickly dumped and rinsed the PBW. There are now a half dozen small black spots on...
I normally brew 2.5 - 3 gallons and still keg in 5 gallon kegs. I was thinking of trying to carbonate with dextrose when I rack into to the keg but I was thinking the extra head space might not work quite right. Has anyone else tried this with any success?
How did you plumb the valve on the mash tun to the false bottom? I am planning on building something very similar and have been wondering how the domed false bottom works in the stainless pot.
I was about to order all of the fitting for a 2.5 gallon system and then I got to thinking about using TriClovers instead of weldless fittings. I plan to eventually build a larger system too so I really like the option of transferring a good chunk of the hardware back and forth. Anyone tried...
I am ready to order the pots for a small 2.5 gallon Brutus 20 I am planning to build I am trying to figure out the falso bottom portion. I already know I want to go with the false bottom as opposed to the SS hose braid. I think I am going to just use a generic 5-6 gallon SS pot for the mash tun...
Craigslist is about the only way I have had any success. You have to be willing to drive a little though usually. Most of the ones I have found have been south of Seattle.
So I have most of the parts spec'd out for a small countertop brutus 20 (many thanks to all of the great write ups on here of similar set ups) and I am trying to decide what kind of filter for the mash tun. I have been using a SS hose braid for batch sparging but I am thinking that anytime you...
Anyone have any feedback on this kettle http://www.homebrewstuff.com/servlet/the-284/8-gallon-32-qt/Detail? I am going to be setting up a 5 gallon all electric system and this is pretty tempting. A couple fewer holes I will need to drill and not a horrible price......
Thanks for the help, time is not a huge issue. I just want to make sure I don't buy too small of a boil kettle when I could have actually gotten away with slightly larger batches.
