    Crabapple Wine

One more question in your process you talk about putting them in a mesh bag. I assume this is so after the primary you can just lift them out? Is that correct? Also does your recipe scale up? So if I want to do 3 gallons X everything by 3? Thanks! Excited to try this. Never made a wine before.

    Crabapple Wine

I just went round there again and took a look and they are beginning to fall down and feel ripe. They taste very bitter! But I think if I don't get them soon they'll be take by the birds or will fall off. I'm north of Toronto so similar part of the world to you I think. Does it have to be an...

    Crabapple Wine

I was walking around my property today and found a HUGE crab apple tree. 2 questions - how do you know when to pick them & when you freeze them do you do anything special or just wash them and throw them in a bag? Thanks

    Missing gravity

Inconsistently missing my gravity by 10 points. I've checked all the obvious things. Calibrated my hydrometer, checked temps , measured accurately. I did a double IPA today and my OG was 1.066 and it was supposed to be 1.078. I use a barley crusher and have a fairly tight crush. Any advice...

    Mash in my EYE!

Thought I'd share this after my brew day today. So I was having a good day and brewing with some tunes on. All was going well until I cleaned out the mash tun. So I had a smaller bucket that I was scooping the spent grains into and once I finished doing this I picked up the smaller bucket to...

Plastic Buckets - Really that bad?

Some people just sit the lids on top without even clicking them down so I wouldn't worry about it. Like you said co2 is protecting the beer so as long as stuff isn't floating into the beer it'll be fine. Good luck!

Any ideas what these things are eating my hops?

Right which is why up until now I just squash them and check my hops daily.
