    old age effect on beer

I have beer celebrating their first birthday and more. Some things I've noticed that I wonder about. I'm have 50-75 batches experience over 3 years. How long do you keep homebrew beer around? I drink a bunch early on then get stingy with the ones I like and try to hang on to the last few for...

Is double crush a waste of time?

Is the second time through the mill at the same spacing or a smaller/tighter gap?

Electric recirculating BIAB system without a basket

I have a steamer rack in my kettle keeping the bag off the heat and out of the pump intake. I've thought about adding a basket to get a bit of space between the bag and the pot sites. This is for those few times when for those few and rare times where the grain in the bag makes a seal when the...

Thanks. It will come down to best price when I finally get to the point of pulling the trigger.

I mash and boil in the same pot if that makes a difference.

    BIAB kettle dimensions

I thought I read once that a taller and more narrow grain column aids/increases efficiency. Do BIABers adhere to that or is it just personal preference for kettle dimensions? I'm thinking/dreaming of going from a 10 gallon pot to a 15 gallon pot. Thanks. -Andy

electric single vessel BIAB with recirculation - my setup

www.webstaurantstore.com is where I got the steamer rack. I'm going to order a better bag for the brew in the bag at some point

electric single vessel BIAB with recirculation - my setup

The steamer rack has ~3" legs. Maybe 2.5". That creates a space under the bag. It only works in that fashion when I drain to a bucket or put the bag back in the pot after I am done and let it drip while I am cleaning.

electric single vessel BIAB with recirculation - my setup

My current setup is a single vessel BIAB with electric heat and recirculation. I'm 6 brews into this setup (6 of 46). 5 gallon batches are a breeze. The majority of the brews I've done is in the 8-15 pounds. Works great for that much grain. The "all-in-one" pot is a 10 gallon kettle. It...

    cone shaped lids

I haven't seen one yet - a cone shaped boil pot lid with a vent/chimney for steam to vent through. Looking to retain more heat and yet let steam and DMS vent. Thinking of something like the Tin Man's hat. Thoughts?

    Bag, probe, & bazooka

I also have a steamer rack in the bottom of my boil pot. Sits about 3" above the bottom. The BIAB bag rests on it above the spigot intakes, sight glass intake, electric heating element, etc.

    Bag, probe, & bazooka

I brew electric biab. I have a temp probe at the bottom of the brew pot controlling the electric heating element. Before I removed the thermometer on the side of the pot I found a significant temp difference between the two. Stirring periodically helped for a moment. Ultimately I pulled...
