Yeah, that's a lot of crates! I used chalkboard paint on MDF, then nailed it to the crate. Nailing the MDF to the crate was for effect, not economy. If you're looking for economical, I would just hit the bottom rail of your crates with chalkboard paint. Thanks for the kudos.

Thanks! I did the one in the picture with pine. Not my favorite wood, but cheap and light. I'm experimenting with something else that should do well with the next 3 and you can decide how they look when I post the pictures. I think they'll do well.
