    How do you pasteurize beer?

To OP: If you have a market that will let you buy singles, make your own six pack, then you could try a few commercial brews that might expand your beer experience. A few to consider: Newcastle Brown ale Killians Red Murphys Irish Stout Dunkel Hefeweizen An American Creme Ale Boddingtons...

How to make a hot/fusel tasting beer... on purpose

Maybe 50% extra light malt extract and 50% adjuncts. Use a brew calc to figure your total sugars for fermenter volume to reach 7-8% abv. Thinking that using a mix of honey and corn sugar would get you desired effect. Ferment on warm side as mentioned. Could even add half a gallon of apple...

    blow off tube sanitation?

flush tubing with hot tap water, alternating flow directions to remove initial deposits. Then add a gallon or so of warm water to a bucket, add a couple drops dawn dish soap and 1/3 cup of bleach. Coil the tubing into the bucket so that the air is pushed out as you go. Let this sit...

    Hard Seltzer... current wisdom?

Interesting thread, no interest in replicating a hard seltzer myself but a couple of thoughts. If I were I’d substitute some of the invert sugar for fermentables with some nutritional values for the yeast. A gallon of apple juice or white grape juice would not affect color much and the...

Homebrewing Three Gallons at a Time

The BIAB concept is new to me, having been out of the game for a while. Although I'm curios and may pursue that route! My plan is to get through these couple of quick/easy batches and go from there. Krausen has fallen, and bubbling seems to be stopped. So looks like everything has gone well...

Homebrewing Three Gallons at a Time

Brewed last night. Cooled brew pot in the sink with cold water bath, transferred to a five gallon carboy and added one gallon cold water. Was able to pitch an hour later. Just used the Munton’s dry yeast. Total volume is about 3.5 gallons. Air lock is bubbling every few seconds this...

Homebrewing Three Gallons at a Time

Supplies came in yesterday. Need to go through the closet and dig out some brew equipment. Thank you, bwible , your post was very helpful. Ran the brewers friend with another one of the coopers kit, as stout and bitter are not listed. Numbers are real close to the est given by bwible's...

Homebrewing Three Gallons at a Time

As for the Primary, I was thinking I'd have a little extra volume, so that when I siphoned off to secondary, I'd fill the carboy up to the neck. Any extra volume would be left with the sediment. Hope that makes sense.

Homebrewing Three Gallons at a Time

Hello, new member here. I brewed some in the past, mostly extract and partial mash brews. Have always used 5 gal batch size for ales/lagers. I do have a couple of 3 gal carboys that were previously used for cider and mead tangents. Current personal situation has lead me to have some time...
