Or you come out to the coast (probably less than an hour drive) and have a couple with us! Probably going to brew an IPA next, and will have to sparge and utilize at least two vessels with my all-in-one. Sigh.

I only did one mash (no sparge) and had 98% conversion, 85% mash efficiency. I did stir (because the damn thing was going to overflow when I recirculated without stirring due to grainbed compaction even with the pump really slowed down) and I stirred really really frequently as I had to if the...

    Recipe thoughts.

Biscuit malt is very dry feeling. It's hard to explain but it's like your mouth feels after eating a lot of crackers. It small amounts, it's great. In more than a small amount, it's terrible. I'd go with no more than 5% or so, and even then it'll be noticeable. I have an IPA recipe that I...

I did the BIAB inside the malt pipe- really didn't help. It's sure messier than I thought it would be without the middle 'feet' in the new setup.

I have the same issue. Maybe it's the new design of the malt pipe? Only one set of 'feet' that sit above the entire vessel with a couple of inches of perforations from the bottom up. Adding water to sparge this means it comes pouring out, many inches of above the wort, and down the outsides...

Yep. It leaks like a sieve. Great for recirculation I guess, but not so great for trying to sparge when all of the holes are above the only set of 'feet' and all way above the body of the Brewzilla. I'm going to try to pull the malt pipe up a bit, hold it a bit, then pull it all the way up...

Way too much biscuit malt for me, but otherwise, I like it!

Thank you- I felt like I was crazy with everybody else telling me that the liquid couldn't come out of the sides......because it sure did, even as I was lifting it up to get on the 'feet'. It wasn't a lot, but it was enough for me to not to want to pour more liquid into it, unless I poured...

    Dandelion Wine

I don't understand what you're saying- strained it? Boiled? If you could explain step by step where you are and how you got where you are, that would help us figure this out.

    Hello kombucha community!

I was part of a book a while back called "fermentation kitchen" (I was the technical editor). It's a pretty decent overview of fermented food and drink, and I've found it very helpful in some of the things I don't do often. Pickles and kombucha are a great place to start, but don't overlook...

If it's done, it could be aged now. Are you checking the hydrometer readings?

    BIAB vs Mash Quality

I just brewed a German pilsner today. About 3-4 years ago, I started using a bag in my MLT, even though I had a 3 vessel all-electric HERMS and could do it the same old way. BIAB is easier for me, and I love doing a no-sparge full volume mash. It does not make inferior beer, and in fact...

Checking in on First Batch Progress

I don't see kahm yeast, just the cellulose mat of the SCOBY.

An appeal to Northeast U.S. Homebrewers

Thank you! I wondered why when paypal let me know of a refund and I appreciate that. My grains, yeast and hops are already used- I brewed a German pilsner earlier today. I did check the prices at Morebeer, and your prices were much lower (I guess to pay for morebeer's 'free shipping') so...

What to do when no wine/cider yeast available and must won't take

Rather than cider that is likely pretty clear, I'd suggest bread yeast if you can't get ale or wine yeast.
